Writer Of THAT Notorious Gay Culture ‘Take Down’ Takes On His Haters
The self-described “gay, Jamaican, conservative Democrat” who penned a divisive takedown of gay culture is baaaaaaack, and he’s here to explain a bit more about his initial piece.
Honestly, we thought that with a title like Loveless, Narcissistic Sex Addicts: A Gay Man Critiques His Community, there wouldn’t be much more to say, but we guess we were wrong.
The Windy City Times caught up with DePaul University professor Jason Hill to discuss the backlash, his background, and, of course, those mean and nasty gays:
Hill told Windy City Times that the editors had changed his title and equally harsh subheads—one of which read, “We’re so lonely, we almost want AIDS”—but stood by what he wrote in the main text of his article. In an age of Grindr and Scruff, he said, gay men will be unable to find harmony in their relationships unless they can develop a stronger moral contract.
These are conclusions he came to because, of course, he’s an “ethicist by training”:
I’m a moral philosopher, an ethicist by training. I tend to look at things from an ethical standpoint. I thought I needed to write a piece that would hold those members, some members of the community guilty of these sorts of behaviors, accountable.
But I [also] wanted to talk about the culture itself, and what constitutes gay culture itself—the ethos, pathos, mores, norms and protocols under which the people that suffuse that culture under which people are socialized. There seemed to be something pretty skewed in many respects.
He also has the groundbreaking theory that apps like Grindr and Scruff foster sex addiction:
One, I think, is the way I think the culture fosters sex addiction, I think, through the proliferation of certain apps that I think are incompatible with the desires and aspirations of gay men who I think want a monogamous or sustained relationship. I thought there was a huge disconnect in the aspirations of those individuals who want a certain life for themselves, and have certain behaviors or habits that cultivate and foster it.
The two are diametrically opposed. One can’t have one’s cake and eat it as well. …If you are faced with a multiplicity of options, the impetus to get to know one person, to hone in on one person and now them intimately, and to build up a bond, is completely lost.
There’s plenty more self-righteous psychobabble where that comes from.
Feel free to take it all in.
We’re not as vociferously opposed to Hill’s ideas as much as our colleague Mr. Tracer, but the ick factor of a piece like this being penned specifically for a conservative outlet like The Federalist is pretty high.
Either way, it starts a conversation that should be had, but perhaps next time a less “highly trained” ethicist can break it down for the regular folk and be a bit less offensive while doing so.

Massachusetts Lawmakers Approve Transgender Rights Bill – WATCH
The Massachusetts House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would protect transgender citizens from discrimination in areas of public accommodation, including bathrooms and changing rooms.
The legislation (H 4343) passed by a vote of 116 to 36. The margin was wide enough to make the vote veto-proof. The bill was not passed purely on party lines, with 12 Democrats voting against and 8 Republicans voting in favor.

The state Senate has approved a similar measure and Governor Charlie Baker (R) has signaled he would sign such a bill.
The move in Massachusetts comes in stark contrast to votes in legislatures around the nation that have advanced anti-transgender bills.
The vote capped a long journey for proponents of the bill who were unsuccessful in advancing the legislation over an eight-year period when the State House was entirely controlled by Democrats.
Rep. John Fernandes, the House chairman of the Judiciary Committee, kicked off the emotional day of debate at the State House by calling public accommodations the “bedrock” of anti-discrimination and a natural extension of the 2011 law that protected transgender individuals from discrimination in the workplace and housing.
“You can’t tell people it’s OK to work at the diner, but it’s not to sit at the lunch counter. We learned that a long time ago,” Fernandes said.
With proponents and opponents of the bill crowding two floors of the State House outside the House chamber, lawmakers engaged in a lengthy back-and-forth over the controversial measure. In the hallways, opponents brought by the Massachusetts Family Institute chanted, “No,” while supporters in the House gallery applauded each opening speech in support of the bill. The debate drew more people to the State House that any other issue this session as many watched on television screens set up outside the chamber as overflow viewing areas.

Is This The Brutal Truth White Gay Men Refuse To Hear?
“Keep it white or Latin.” “Not into Black or Asian.” “Less than white? Not interested.”
These are snippets culled from real Grindr profiles, and included in an article published by Mic.

Entitled “Here’s One Brutal Truth Every White Gay Man Needs to Hear,” the first-person piece — worth a read in its entirety — finds journalist Matthew Rodriquez discussing his experiences as a Latino gay man, sharing examples of the discrimination he regularly faces on dating apps.
“Gay white men were born gay, but they were also raised and socialized as white men — the social group vested with the most privilege in America,” he begins. “But here’s the brutal truth — the social privilege of whiteness still affords them a disproportionate amount of power in the gay community.”
He continues: “That privilege elevates white, gay men above men of color. They cover both gay and mainstream magazines. They lead primetime shows about gay men. White, gay men set the standard against which other gay men’s attractiveness is measured.”
Rodriquez says that the only way to “eradicate racism within the gay community” is for white gay men to “acknowledge their privilege — and the way it’s used, in ways subtle and not, to denigrate minorities.”
He goes on to discuss his own firsthand experiences of how his skin color impacts the way he interacts with the gay community at large:
“Like other black and brown gay men, I feel the effects of racism in everyday interactions with white gay men. But perhaps the most casual and most common place minority gays experience racism is in interactions on apps like Grindr, which to some degree have replaced gay bars as a nexus for dating and hookups.”
If you think Scruff or Grindr are hardly worth getting upset about, Rodriquez begs to differ.
“It is serious,” he writes. “Grindr is the new watering hole. How you comport yourself on there matters.”
Related: This Is Nelson. He Has Something To Say About Racism In The Gay Community. You Should Listen.
That’s why he feels it’s imperative that gay white men stop framing “desires according to racial categories — no this, no that.” It’s a point that seems readily obvious, but perhaps it’s one that bares repeating (over and over and over.) After all, we still see plenty of profiles with “No Asians, please.”)
If you want to help simplify your search for sexual partners, Rodriquez encourages readers to “frame your desires around specific acts and qualities you like. It could actually get you laid faster. Wanna play a sub bottom? Just say so. Wanna take it from a hung top? Say it loud and say it proud.”
Hmm. We tend to see a lot of that, too.
So what do you think? Is “the social privilege of whiteness” still leading to an uneven level of power in the gay community? Sound off in the comments below.
