TurnOUT! North Carolina Holds Weekly Phonebanks to Repeal HB2

TurnOUT! North Carolina Holds Weekly Phonebanks to Repeal HB2

Organizers from TurnOUT! North Carolina (NC) are holding weekly phonebanks across the Tar Heel State to recruit volunteers to join the campaign to fully repeal House Bill 2 (HB2). Phonebanks are being held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Greenville, Raleigh, Charlotte and Asheville. These are four key communities where legislators could be pressured to vote the right way and repeal the damaging and harmful HB2.

TurnOUT! NC, a coalition of HRC, Equality North Carolina, the ACLU and the Campaign for Southern Equality, has partnered with Aim Higher Now on identifying pro-equality voters across the state who are willing to contact their elected officials and demand repeal of HB2. A campaign of this size needs hundreds of volunteers who can dedicate a few hours a week to this important issue.

Former HRC Board of Governors Member and Raleigh resident Maddy Goss spent her Tuesday evening making calls. Maddy, who is transgender, a parent and a software engineer in the Research Triangle, bravely testified against HB2 in March. She is continuing her advocacy with TurnOUT! NC, urging legislators to repeal HB2.

Equal Ground has 'Nothing But Pride' for Sri Lanka's LGBT community

Equal Ground has 'Nothing But Pride' for Sri Lanka's LGBT community

EQUAL GROUND

Equal Ground is Sri Lanka’s organization seeking human and politial rights for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Questioning community. The organization has successfully organized Pride events for over a decade, with this year marking the 12th Colombo PRIDE. Annual Colombo PRIDE celebrations are held each year to “bring together the LGBTIQ community in one safe space to celebrate their diversity in an environment free of discrimination and prejudice.”

On their website, Equal Ground explains the importance and overall purpose of holding PRIDE celebrations, as well as the specific events that take place:

Equal Ground works very hard to provide for the needs of the community each year giving the LGBTIQ community of Sri Lanka the space to stand up tall and be proud of who and what they are. PRIDE in Sri Lanka is currently on a small scale and whilst we hope to one day march the streets demanding our rights, the current political climate4 coupled with the oppressive laws against LGBTIQ persons, impedes a peaceful march. therefore, PRIDE celebrations take place as private, yet very public functions attended by persons from all over Sri Lanka.

Each year, a diverse range of events are held to encourage the Queer community to come out and be proud. It is also an educational and sensitizing exercise where the message of diversity is addressed in a holistic way, paving for better understanding and acceptance of the Queer community by the larger Sri Lankan citizenship. Events include workshops, dramas/shows/musicals, film festivals, art & photo exhibitions, parties, a kite festival, and so on.

Since this year’s Colombo PRIDE celebrations were announced, disturbing articles and messages have been published online by hate groups that Equal Ground says are “threatening to derail progress towards ensuring equal rights for all persons regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity” and spread “derogatory and false information regarding the LGBTIQ community and Equal Ground.” One of these politically motivated groups known as “The Island Nation of Sinhale,” is notorious for spreading radical ideologies intended to sow animosity and incite discrimination, hostility and even violence against minorities. Equal Ground has also faced resistance from institutions such as the Colombo Municipal Council and Sri Lanka Police when attempting to obtain permission for events commemorating International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia and Colombo PRIDE, with such institutions resorting to delay tactics to unreasonably withhold approvals for events without providing reasons for delays.

Despite the obstacles Equal Ground is faced with this year, the organization has stated that they will not be intimidated and will “proceed with the events planned for Colombo PRIDE 2016” as they continue to fight for equal rights for every individual regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In spite of all the dispicable threats to Colombo PRIDE 2016, we will still go ahead, with pride @CWEquality @LizBarkerLords @JonathanCoopr

Freshly Out Colton Haynes Is Relishing In His Newfound Gayness

Colton Haynes is glowing, ya’ll.

Last week, the 27-year-old actor spoke to EW, confirming what everyone already knew to be true: That he is not the least bit heterosexual.

“I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet,” he explained when asked why he had waited so long to come out publicly. “But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward.”

He continued: “People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day. I’d go home and I was still acting. People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.”

Now that the cat’s officially out of the bag, Haynes seems to be flourishing. The other day, he posted a message on Instagram thanking his fans for the “unbelievable amount of support & love you’ve been sending my way.”

He concluded the post with an inspirational quote: “There once was a man who was afraid of his shadow…he met it…now he glows in the dark.”

Man Discovers His Male Lover Is Engaged… To A Woman! Now What?!

Man Discovers His Male Lover Is Engaged… To A Woman! Now What?!

bisexual-love-triangle

What do you do when you discover the guy you’ve been messing around with is engaged… to a woman… and he has two young children? That’s what one 29-year-old U.K. man wants to know.

“I met a cute gay man online but have just found out he’s due to get married next month–to a woman,” he explains to advice columnist Deidre.

The man says the two met online and “soon bared our all on the webcam.”

“We arranged to meet up but I checked him on Facebook beforehand,” he says. “I was shocked to see he is engaged to a woman and has two little kids.”

But the plot thickens.

The man continues: “Not only that but he’s friends with an old pal of mine. I spoke to her and she said his fiancée was thrilled to be tying the knot at last.”

“My friend begged me not to speak to her because she had just bought a house with her fella,” the man explains. “She said I should talk to the guy, so I did, but he didn’t seem bothered. Should I tell his fiancé?”

Deidre breaks the situation down pretty quickly.

“He is clearly leading a double life and that rarely ends well,” she says in her response. “But blowing his cover won’t make it OK.”

She continues: “Talk to him, though. Say you hope he’s not risking his fiancé’s sexual health and that if he’s hurting her then he’ll also be hurting his kids.”

“Let’s hope that that pricks his conscience,” she concludes.

What do you think? Should this man confront his paramour about the double life he is leading, or should he alert the fiancé? Sound off in the comments section below.

Here’s the Trailer for the Daniel Radcliffe Farting Corpse Bromance Movie – WATCH

Here’s the Trailer for the Daniel Radcliffe Farting Corpse Bromance Movie – WATCH

daniel radcliffe farting corpse

A new trailer for Swiss Army Man, often described as the ‘Daniel Radcliffe farting corpse movie’, has just been released giving a look at what set so many tongues a wagging at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.

The movie follows Paul Dano who discovers a corpse floating in the ocean just as he’s about to commit suicide. The corpse (Radcliffe) possesses some sort of magical powers of reanimation and, as it turns out, his boner acts as a compass that can help guide Dano home.

Slash Film writes:

Radcliffe’s farting corpse made headlines at Sundance, turning this under-the-radar feature from first-time directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (of Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” video) into one of the most talked-about movies at the fest. Not all of the responses were positive — the film reportedly saw plenty of walkouts in its world premiere screening — but it won over plenty of fans, too, myself included.
