Michigan Dad Pulls 3 Sons From School Over Transgender Classmate – VIDEO

A Michigan dad has pulled his three sons out of school because a transgender boy was allowed to use the boy’s room at the school his sons attend.

The school in question is Southwest Elementary School in Livingston, Michigan.

Via Raw Story (which misgenders the trans child):

Matt Stewart said his 9-year-old son told him a girl who identifies as a boy was permitted to use the restroom alongside him at Southwest Elementary School in Livington, reported the Detroit Free Press.

“My son informed me there was a girl in the bathroom with him and the other kids in his class,” Stewart told WXYZ-TV.

He said a staff member was present when several children used the boys’ restroom at the same time.

“She was instructed to look at the wall, don’t look, and there was a conversation with my 9-year-old about standing closer to the urinals,” Stewart told WDIV-TV.

Stewart added, “I have three children in Southwest Elementary School and they are being humiliated and intimidated.” He said his song was left feeling as if “he was doing something wrong.”

Of pulling his kids from school, Stewart says, “Our kids are absent from school until there’s a policy in place that keeps them from being humiliated or intimidated.”

Talking Points Memo reports:

As of Thursday, Stewart’s children, who attend Southwest Elementary in Howell, Michigan, had missed three days of school. He told the news station he would consider homeschooling his kids or sending them to another school district if the public wasn’t allowed any input on the policy.

Anti-Trans School Board Candidate Arrested for Refusing to Leave LGBT Meeting – VIDEO

Anti-Trans School Board Candidate Arrested for Refusing to Leave LGBT Meeting – VIDEO

Dean Paterakis

A Florida school board candidate was arrested earlier this week after he he refused to leave a meeting at which he spoke against anti-LGBT discrimination measures in the district.

At a Brevard County School Board public meeting on Tuesday, Dean Paterakis alleged that a local teacher had shown a photo of his “erect penis” to students. School board chair Andy Ziegler said the comments were inappropriate but Paterakis refused to leave the podium. A security officer and two sheriff’s deputies intervened but Paterakis refused to budge, saying he had a right to “free speech.” Some audience members voiced support for Paterakis, chanting “Let him speak.”  He eventually sat on the floor and had to be carried out of the room by sheriff’s deputies. He was later released from jail on a $750 bond.

As NCRM points out, Paterakis later wrote on Facebook:

“I have seen the sheriff report against me as they were booking me and it said that because I was told not to use the word penis that I was asked to leave and I was also charged with resisting arrest which is such a joke.

“I thought I have seen it all, but this absolutely is one the most ridiculous things I have seen the school board and sheriff’s department pull. How out of touch with education are these elected school board members are that they don’t understand that the schools teach education in elementary and the word penis is a medical and an appropriate term to refer a man’s genitalia? These charges are obvious attempts to keep me silent about [what] goes on in our schools.”

Rachel Maddow and Seth Meyers Skewer the Email Protocol Hillary Clinton Violated – WATCH

Rachel Maddow and Seth Meyers Skewer the Email Protocol Hillary Clinton Violated – WATCH

hillary clinton emails

Rachel Maddow and Seth Meyers both took a look at the ‘Hillary Clinton email scandal’ this week following the release of a report from the State Department’s Inspector General that found Clinton violated State Department rules in how she handled her emails. The report also found that other past secretaries of state including Collin Powell violated the rules as well.

Meyers dug into the controversy on Thursday night during his “A Closer Look” segment. Underscoring Clinton’s repeated contrition on having used a personal email server, Meyers joked that Clinton “is clearly doing her best to not scream, ‘What more do you people want from me?’” He added, “The only way this scandal could be more boring is if Wolf Blitzer talked about it.” And then he proved it…with Wolf Blitzer talking about it.

When it comes to the actual protocol that Hillary Clinton was supposed to follow regarding her emails, both Meyers and Maddow highlighted the absurdity of current State Department regulations.

Said Meyers, “She literally had to print out each individual email and file it away. Even worse, every time she texted someone an emoji, she had to take a picture of herself making that expression and fax it to Congress.”

Maddow was confounded by the protocol, summing it up, “Every single email sent or received needs to be printed out, taken off the printer, dropped into a box. And I’m not exaggerating. It’s the exact system. And it’s the only system approved by the rules…The State Department acknowledges this is not a great system.”

To prove how absurd the protocol is, Maddow printed out every email she had sent or received this week. The sum of three days of emails amounted to a giant stack. “And I’m not Secretary of State,” Maddow said.

Meanwhile, the US government is still using 8 inch floppy disks to run the nuclear program.

Watch both Meyers’ and Maddow’s takes, below.

New Film Highlights Transgender Service Members and Veterans

New Film Highlights Transgender Service Members and Veterans

A new feature length version, TransMilitary, highlights the story of courageous men and women who came out as transgender in the U.S. Military. The films features service members at all levels, including top brass officials inside the Pentagon.

According to the Palm Center, there are approximately 15,500 actively serving transgender members of the U.S. military, making the Department of Defense (DOD) the largest employer of transgender people in America.  These courageous men and women are forced to serve in silence by DOD medical regulations prohibiting their service and requiring their separation from the military if discovered – regulations are outdated and out of step with current medical practice.

In July, U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced the establishment of a working group to study the policy. The group considered a list of issues surrounding the open service of transgender troops, including medical treatment, housing, uniforms and physical fitness standards.

Fiona Dawson, a writer and director who formerly served on HRC’s National Board of Directors, co-directed and co-produced the film.

“When the discriminatory policies do change, the film will ensure that this historic victory in American history is fully captured and told well,” Dawson said. “We can’t let this incredible and unique story of transgender rights be lost in time.

The film documents the urgency for Secretary Carter to move forward with open military service in the coming weeks.

Cobalto is billed as the “travel diary” of an Italian photographer based in Venice, Italy. We’ll be honest — we’re not exactly sure what that means.

But it goes without saying that this visual artist shares an appreciation for the same male form that shows up in some of the statues of his home town, and we can definitely relate there.

Oh the people places you’ll go:

Tom Ford, Matt Bomer, Trump Sanders Debate, Justin Bieber, Homeland: NEWS

Hillary Clinton SC Equality2016 ELECTION. Why certain Hillary supporters may be hiding in plain sight: “If you’ve been following the Democratic presidential contest, you might be wondering how it is possible that Bernie Sanders seems to have all the energy and enthusiasm and, yet, Hillary Clinton is way ahead in the race to the nomination. Lauren Winkler emailed us to offer an answer. ‘I get this feeling that many Hillary supporters (at least the younger ones, like me) are just biding their time to publicly display their support once she has the party’s nomination,’ wrote Winkler. ‘It’s so visceral. The reaction against her,’ she said when we met up with her in Albuquerque, N.M., where she lives. Publicly showing support for Hillary Clinton just isn’t worth the aggravation for Winkler and her friends Leigh Featherstone and Holly Chamberlin.”

TRUMP VS SANDERS. Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur offers $1 million to stage debate: “It would be among the most watched debates in the world,” touted Uygur. “It would be a clash of the titans in terms of ideology from the right and the left without the establishment in the middle.”

UNDERWATER. Microsoft and Facebook to build highest undersea data link ever: “The tech companies will help design the subsea cable which will run between Virginia in the US and Bilbao, Spain. The project will be managed by Spanish telecommunications firm Telefonica, which will sell any unused capacity on the cable to other customers. The cable will help the tech giants move data more quickly and cheaply between their global data centres.”

Mike AlboSPERMHOOD. Mike Albo shoots a creative load: “What struck me about the way the show was organized is that rather than simply presenting a linear monologue describing Albo’s experience as a sperm donor, that underlying narrative instead supplies a framework in which to relate his findings of gay single-dom of a certain age, what he calls at various points the “condom generation.” He also touches on themes of the STD-stigmatization of the LGBT community, the pressures of making ends meet as a creative sort, and the implicit contract of obligation that both romantic and parental relationships entail–a contract he had implicitly assumed was not for him.”

PILOTS. Matt Bomer coming in June Netflix pilot: “The Last Tycoon, Academy Award nominee Billy Ray’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last work. It stars Matt Bomer as Hollywood’s Golden Boy Monroe Stahr as he battles his father figure and boss Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer). Lily Collins also stars as Cecelia Brady.”

NEXT WEEK. ‘The State of Marriagespecial event and VOD release: ‘The State of Marriage’ is the untold story of how legal pioneer Mary Bonauto partnered with small town Vermont lawyers Beth Robinson and Susan Murray to establish the foundation for the marriage equality movement. Vermont became the first state to grant same sex couples legal recognition through a groundbreaking 1999 State Supreme Court decision, and the first to legalize marriage equality by legislative vote in 2009. The film features historical recollections with Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson, civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally.”

LAWSUITS. Justin Bieber and Skrillex sued over vocal loops in “Sorry”. “Justin Bieber and Skrillex are being sued by the indie artist Casey Dienel, according to reports by TMZ. Dienel, who records under the name White Hinterland, claims the duo used one of her vocal loops without permission on their track Sorry. The eight-second snippet in question is used repeatedly through her 2014 song Ring the Bell. Dienel reportedly claims that the “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff” have been copied. According to TMZ, Bieber’s team received warnings not to use the part but ignored them.”

TELEVISION. Homeland Season 6 will focus on post-election NYC: “The entire season will take place between election day and inauguration day. It’s an interesting time; a transition and transfer of power is happening.”

NOCTURNAL ANIMALS. Tom Ford film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams gets award season release date of November 18.

Bernie Sanders Angers HIV/AIDS Activists by Misrepresenting Meeting

Bernie Sanders Angers HIV/AIDS Activists by Misrepresenting Meeting

HIV/AIDS activists Sanders by misrepresenting meeting

Bernie Sanders met with HIV/AIDS activists on Wednesday and then pissed them off by putting out a press release suggesting that their meeting was about his endorsement of AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s ballot initiative to lower prices for taxpayer-supported AIDS treatments.

Said Sanders in the press release:

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday met with national HIV/AIDS advocates to discuss the epidemic and his support for a California ballot initiative to lower prices for taxpayer-supported AIDS treatments.

“Let me thank you for the work you do,” Sanders said at the conclusion of the meeting. “The issues you have raised are enormously important and effect millions of people in this country and more around the world.

“I look forward to continuing to work with you,” the senator added at the meeting hosted by Danny Glover, the activist and actor.

The ballot proposition Sanders supports – the California Drug Price Relief Act – is supported by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and National Nurses United, both headquartered in Oakland, California. The measure would prohibit the state from paying more for a prescription drug than the lowest price paid for the same drug by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It would make sure that state taxpayers will no longer be ripped off by pharmaceutical companies that charge exorbitant prices for AIDS treatments and other prescription drugs. “We think it’s a great start and we applaud the people of California for standing up to the pharmaceutical industry,” Sanders said afterward.

Sanders’ proposal to provide Medicare-for-all universal health care would also benefit the 1.2 million Americans with HIV/AIDS.

At the meeting, Sanders noted that he has introduced a plan to lower costs for HIV/AIDS drugs. His measure would establish a prize fund to provide incentives for drug makers to develop new treatments. Unlike the current system that lets drug makers charge the highest prices in the world for medicine sold in the United States, medical breakthroughs made under the prize fund system would make the new drugs available to the public at affordable prices.

Sanders also agreed to set a national goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the U.S. by the year 2025 so that HIV is no longer a public health threat to any community in the U.S. and that people with HIV are able to live long, healthy lives.

Sanders also has called for expansion of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program which provides HIV-related services. The senator also promised to push for stronger civil rights protections for people living with the disease.

Activist Peter Staley lashed out on Facebook after the press release went out:

Feeling used and abused by the Sanders campaign right now. They just issued a press release making it sound like our meeting was about his endorsement of AHF’s drug pricing ballot initiative in CA.

Senator Sanders never brought the issue up during our meeting. WE brought it up near the end, only to tell him that we had been flooded with messages from all the leading AIDS organizations in CA with deep concerns about AHF’s initiative — they are worried it could actually negatively impact access to AIDS drugs.

Those groups have tried to reach the campaign with these concerns but had hit a brick wall. We asked Sanders to designate someone in his campaign to talk with these groups, and he agreed to this.

WE DID NOT ENDORSE AHF’S INITIATIVE.

His campaign should not have issued a press release implying this was a major topic of discussion at the meeting, and that there was general agreement on the Senator’s position on this. Anything but.
