PHOTOS: Tea Bagging Like You’ve Never Seen Before
Tea bags were first introduced in China as a method for preserving the flavor of tea during the Tang Dynasty in 618-907 A.D. But it wasn’t until the early 20th century that they were distributed commercially and used in place of traditional metal tea infusers.

Thomas Sullivan, a New York tea merchant who may or may not have been homosexual, began sending samples of his loose leaf teas in silk sachets. Customers mistakenly thought the sachets were supposed to be used in the same way as metal tea infusers, by dropping the entire bag into a cup of boiling water.

Realizing the genius in his customers’ mistake, Sullivan quickly patented the idea and, thus, it was by sheer happenstance that the modern tea bad came to be.

The Many Faces Of “Rocky Horror’s” Dr. Frank-N-Furter, From Tim Curry To Laverne Cox
This week, we got our first look at Laverne Cox’s Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Fox’s upcoming live musical remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Cox says her version of the character, originated by Tim Currry—who appears in the reboot as the film’s Narrator—has been compared to Grace Jones and David Bowie. “It’s way more elaborate and couture,” she tells Entertainment Weekly. “[Director] Kenny Ortega had this vision that Frank was at this old theater and found these old burlesque costumes and is, like, using them and wearing them now but has altered them a bit.”
Here’s the full photo:
It’s certainly a departure from the cult classic, immortalized by Tim Curry:
The Orange Is the New Black star isn’t the first performer to reinterpret this sweet transvestite. Let’s do the “Time Warp” again and have a look back at the many faces of Dr. Frank-N-Furter:
Amber Riley
Casting Glee‘s aspiring soul diva Mercedes in Curry’s role in the show’s very special Rocky Horror episode was a little unexpected—but definitely not as unlikely as a high school production of the risqué musical.
Jim Parsons
In 2013, Parsons slipped into the requisite fishnets to play Frank-N-Furter alongside his Big Bang Theory co-stars in at A Night at Sardi’s benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association.
Anthony Head
Probably best known as tweedy librarian Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Head was altogether less buttoned-up when he starred in the West End’s 1990-1991 revival of The Rocky Horror Show.

Tom Hewitt
This Broadway star dispensed with the wig when he starred in the 2000 revival alongside Joan Jett and Daphne Rubin Vega.
The Divas of Drag Race
It’s pretty much become a tradition for RuPaul’s Drag Race alums and regulars alike to appear in San Antonio’s Woodlawn Theater’s annual staging of Rocky Horror. Everyone from Michelle Visage to Bianca Del Rio has done the “Time Warp” on the Lone Star stage. Alaska, Sharon Needles, and Courtney Act have all brought their own radically different interpretations to the character of Frank-N-Furter.
Meanwhile, Manila Luzon’s gave us a spikier interpretation of Frank on this 2011 Next Magazine cover:
Megyn Kelly Grills Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Transgender Bathroom Rights – WATCH
Megyn Kelly confronted Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick on Friday over his blustery opposition to the Obama administration’s guidance on transgender students in public schools.
Throughout her interview, Kelly tried to steer Patrick towards answering her questions rather than just spouting off talking points based on lies and dangerous myths about alleged transgender bathroom predators. He repeatedly veered off course, but Kelly held his feet to the fire.
When Patrick touted his role in defeating HERO, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance that in his words would have “allowed men in ladies’ rooms”, Kelly was quick to challenge him. “Allow men in ladies’ rooms or allow trans women in ladies’ rooms?” she asked.
Patrick then attempted to mansplain, saying, “Megyn, you’re missing this.” But Megyn wasn’t having it. “I don’t think I’m missing anything,” she quipped.
When Patrick then suggested that granting transgender people equal rights would lead to predatory ‘men in women’s bathrooms’, Kelly interjected, “Do you have a big problem with that? Is this a problem? With men intentionally donning women’s clothing so they can sneak into–”
But as he did throughout the interview, Patrick then cut her off. The interview ended with Kelly finally cutting Patrick off from spewing more nonsense.

Bill Maher: Don’t Blame Liberals for the Rise of Donald Trump – WATCH
On Real Time with Bill Maher Friday night, host Maher blasted both the media and Republicans who are attempting to blame liberals for the rise of Donald Trump.
Said Maher to conservatives, “If we have to own the man-bun, you have to own the Donald.” Maher went on to cite articles (a number of which were not from conservative news outlets) that push the thesis that liberals’ smug obsession with facts and so-called ‘political correctness’ “Forced otherwise reasonable people into Trump’s hateful embrace.”
Maher wasn’t having it. “That is their thesis, really, that Trump voters are perfectly nice if left alone–like raccoons. They just want to eat garbage and crap in your hot tub.” Of the fact-free bubble that many Republicans live in, Maher quipped, “It hurts their feelings when we insult their values with our facts.”
He wondered how he “as a liberal fact-knower, can both not insult you but also tell the truth.” In other words, how are liberals supposed to respect Republicans’ views when they so often espouse views based on Looney Tunes-rewriting of factual evidence?
Said Maher,
“I can’t honestly say I respect your view that the world is 5,000 years old because it’s 2016. If Sarah Palin claims nighttime is when Jesus puts a blanket over the sun and I disagree, does that make me smug? I’m sorry you find it irritating when liberals point out that global warming exists, or that racism exists, or that gay people exist. But here’s the thing. You guys were wrong about all that. Really. Check the climate science. Check the dashboard camera on the police car. Check your pastor’s internet history.”
He adds, “Trump is your problem. But somehow the party of personal responsibility doesn’t want to take responsibility for this one.”

Anti-LGBT Extremist Stumped Over Which Bathroom a Transgender Person Should Use: WATCH
On Friday’s Hardball on MSNBC, host Chris Matthews stumped a guest from the anti-LGBT group Family Research Council about what bathroom transgender people should use.
That guest was Travis Weber who joined transgender rights activist Jennifer Finney Boyland to talk about bathroom rights for transgender Americans with Matthews. Throughout the program, Matthews tried again and again to get Weber to answer one simple question: which bathroom should Boyland and other trans women like her use?
The exchange was classic Chris Matthews, who is known for not letting a guest get off the hook.
Via Media Matters For America:
CHRIS MATTHEWS (HOST): Travis, tell Jenny what bathroom she should use.
TRAVIS WEBER: Well —
MATTHEWS: Which one should she use?
WEBER: Yeah, I mean I’m not sure, um —
MATTHEWS: Well just answer that question.
WEBER: I think people should be —
MATTHEWS: She said she would not be comfortable or not cause such problem if she walked into a men’s room. Should she walk into a men’s room?
WEBER: I think we can do things the way we’ve done them for decades, and people could use bathrooms according to biological sex with specific accommodation made for people who have a genuine issue. If we look at the North Carolina law, it made an accommodation. People are not happy with that, however. And now the Obama administration —
MATTHEWS: Let’s just talk about transgender people. What should a transgender person who identifies as a woman do? What bathroom should they go to? Just keep it simple.
WEBER: Yeah well there’s an issue of privacy concerns.
MATTHEWS: See no, you can’t answer the question, can you? What should they do?
Matthews continually returned to the question throughout the segment, at one point asking Weber, “What should Jenny do if she was visiting North Carolina right now? Should she go to the men’s room? Should she? You’re dodging the toughest question, which is what do you want people to behave like?” He then asked, “Can you answer the question? Should Jenny go to the men’s room or the ladies room?”
Trying to understand what Weber’s position is, Matthews asserted, “It just seems odd to me that you’d want Jenny to show up in men’s room you go to. You think that would be appropriate? You think that would be appropriate? It’s a simple question, should Jenny go to your men’s room? Yes or no.” When Weber again did not answer the question, Matthews said, “See, you’re dodging this question.”

Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and What it Means
Post submitted by HRC Legal Coordinator Kristen Hildreth
Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act codified existing informal guidance from HHS interpreting this new provision to include protections from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sex stereotyping. The Department of Health and Human Service’s definitions of gender identity and sex stereotypes recognize that protections against sex discrimination should extend to not only Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual people, but to those of all gender identities – including Transgender individuals and people of non-binary genders.
Section 1557 prohibits most insurers from discriminating on the basis of sex – including gender identity – when providing health coverage. Discrimination on the basis of gender identity includes:
· Blanket exclusions on any transition-related healthcare services;
· The denial or limitation of coverage for services used for gender transition when those services would normally be covered when treating a non-transition related health condition; and
· The refusal to cover treatment that is typically associated with one particular gender, because an individual identifies with another gender or is listed as having another gender in their medical records or on a personal form of identification.
It also requires that providers treat individuals in a manner consistent with their gender identity, including in access to health-care facilities. Wherever people are separated or labeled by gender, people are to be treated according to their self- identified gender. Section 1557 applies to all health programs and activities, any part of which receives any Federal financial assistance.
At this point you’re probably asking yourself, “what does this all mean and how will it play out in real life?”
Let’s assume Joe goes to his physician’s office with a healthcare plan provided through the marketplace. Joe is seeking hormone therapy as he begins his transition. During testing, Joe is initially told by his physician that he must use the restroom associated with his sex assigned at birth. That same physician then tells him that his insurance will not cover this particular type of hormone treatment as his gender on his birth certificate does not align with the gender on his medical records and his treatment plan is typically not associated with that gender. Under Section 1557 regulations Joe’s insurance provider can be found to be discriminating on the basis of sex as can Joe’s physician for preventing him from using facilities consistent with his self-identified gender.
Now let’s move to Alyssa – Alyssa calls her health insurance provider and is told that if she seeks any transition- related health care services they will not be covered. Under the Section 1557 regulations, Alyssa’s insurance provider can be found to be discriminating on the basis of gender identity which is a form of sex discrimination.
Finally onto Sue – Sue, who identifies as bisexual, goes to her physician for treatment of a chronic illness and informs them that she has a new partner who is female. Sue’s physician, who was always cordial and receptive, begins to act discourteous and dismissive prior to declining to treat her further. Under the Section 1557 regulations, Sue’s physician can be found to be discriminating based on her stereotypes regarding with whom women should be in relationships which is a type of sex discrimination.
Section 1557 regulations explicitly prohibit discrimination based on gender identity – making it clear that most insurers cannot deny or limit coverage because a treatment is related to an individual’s gender transition. In addition, the regulation prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex stereotyping, which covers discrimination against lesbian, gay, and bisexual people as well as transgender people. If you feel as though you have experienced discrimination in a healthcare setting based on your sexual orientation, gender identity or gender-nonconforming status please visit www.hhs.gov/civil-rights/filing-a-complaint/index.html to file a civil rights complaint.

Straight Model Zach Miko Proves To Mainstream Fashion What We Have Known All Along: Big Guys Are Hot
It seems that mainstream fashion has finally discovered the undeniable sex appeal of bearded, big-boned guys—that’s bears to us gays—thanks to “America’s top plus-size male model” Zach Miko. The 6-foot-6, 275lb 26-year-old burst onto the scene this past fall when he started modeling for Target and was since signed by IMG Models’ new plus-size men’s division, Brawn.
In the age of the lumbersexual and the Dad Bod, even The Grey Lady has taken note of his beefy appeal. In a lengthy profile in today’s New York Times Style section, Miko shares his experiences growing up husky. “I was always the big kid who felt like the outsider,” he tells the paper.
While gay men of a certain size have always found acceptance in the bear community, and even seen images of bodies like theirs celebrated in magazines like Pinups, that hasn’t been the case for straight guys until recently. “For me, the coolest thing about this is the idea that kids like me can look at a website or a magazine and see somebody their size instead of these Adonises … I think that’s going to do amazing things for their self-esteem,” Miko says.

Meanwhile, he is not having American Eagle’s April Fools joke aimed at husky guys: “I don’t think they meant to be malicious,” he has said. “But they were saying to all these guys, ‘Celebrate the way you look.’ And then it was, ‘Never mind, you still look funny.’”
F the haters. Zack Miko looks damn fine to us! And those nice guys good looks are for real; as a kid Miko was an alter boy and an Eagle Scout! “I never used my size in an aggressive way,” he tells the Times. “I tried to be funny and charming.”
These days, Miko is trying to charm his way on into acting. A high school drama geek and a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, according to his IMG bio he’s had guest roles on CBS’ Limitless and NBC’s Shades of Blue. With a bunch of auditions under his 40-inch belt this pilot season, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those baby blue eyes and that brawny physique on TV next season.
