NC AG Roy Cooper to Pat McCrory: ‘Undo This Discriminatory Law Now’ – WATCH
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper released a video on Monday blasting Governor Pat McCrory for doubling down on his support for HB 2, the state’s anti-LGBT ‘bathroom bill.’
Earlier on Monday, McCrory held a news conference in which he announced that he would sue the Department of Justice for ordering North Carolina to stop enforcing HB 2. McCrory said he could not agree with the DOJ’s argument that HB 2 violates the Civil Rights Act and is thus discriminatory.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch is holding a news conference of her own to address McCrory’s defiance.
Cooper, a Democrat, is running against McCrory for the governor’s mansion in the November election. In his video, Cooper said HB 2 has caused “a real and devastating impact on North Carolina’s economy and reputation” and cost the state “thousands of jobs.”
Of McCrory’s defiance of the DOJ’s order, Cooper said, “The governor is pouring gas on the fire that he lit by putting billions of dollars of education funding on the line. Instead of doing what’s right for our state, he’s doubling down on what he knows he did wrong. Enough is enough.” Cooper urged McCrory to “Set politics aside and undo this discriminatory law now.”

WATCH:HRC President Chad Griffin Discusses North Carolina Governor’s Desperate Attempt to Defend HB2
Today, HRC President Chad Griffin joined Tamron Hall on MSNBC to discuss Governor Pat McCrory’s lawsuit defending the deeply discriminatory HB2.
The lawsuit was filed this morning in response to an order from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Last week, the DOJ put North Carolina on notice that the state’s discriminatory HB 2 violates federal civil rights law — including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 — and gave McCrory until today to confirm “that the State will not comply with or implement HB 2.”
“Transgender people in this country are discriminated against day in and day out,” Griffin said. “What the city of Charlotte did by moving forward with non-discrimination protections was simply having Charlotte catch up with the rest of this country. Charlotte is one of only a couple major cities in America that don’t have non-discrimination protections today.”
North Carolina has already lost more than a half billion dollars in economic activity just from companies canceling or reconsidering plans to come to the state, and in cancelled conventions, concerts, and other lost tourism dollars. Additionally, 200 leading CEOs and business leaders have signed onto HRC and Equality NC’s open letter urging McCrory and the state’s General Assembly to repeal HB2.
“What he needs to do is repeal HB2 and restore the reputation of the state of North Carolina,” Griffin said. “Until he does that, North Carolina is not going to get their jobs back, their not going to have their reputation back and he’s going to continue to destroy the state’s economy.”
The Department of Justice is expected to make an announcement later today about McCrory’s lawsuit.

Dan Savage Destroys Ann Coulter On Bathroom Controversy
Bless Dan Savage for making time to get on TV and make sense of the world. On last week’s Real Time with Bill Maher, he got into a short scrape with Ann Coulter — yeah, that lady. She’s still around. Doing something, though it’s unclear what.
The topic turned to trans people using bathrooms, as part of a discussion of how bigots freak out whenever freedoms are expanded to a group that they don’t like. “The Kim Davises of the world are like ‘what about our rights to take away your rights’?” Bill observes.
Dan, wearing a fetching jacket that was almost definitely picked out by his husband, replies, “they couldn’t demagogue about gays and lesbians because too many of us are out and too many people know us, so they took the same old script, ‘oh they’re recruiting children, preying on children, creeping in bathrooms,’ that was what they said about gay men 40 years ago, and they’re just taking it and applying it now to trans women. And it’s bullshit, trans women and men use bathrooms all over the country and have forever. And they have no cases to point to where a trans person has exploited a civil rights protection to prey on a child.”
“It’s not that transgender people are going to go and molest children,” says Ann Coulter, trying to tear down his point. “it’s that once you say men can go into women’s bathrooms, men who are out shopping with their little daughters, it’s not that the trans are going to molest them, it’s that a child molester now has the right to go into that bathroom.”
Dan won’t let that stand: “That’s bullshit, a child molester doesn’t need to put on a dress to enter bathrooms. You can google ‘sexually assaulted in a restroom’ and you get thousands of examples of cisgender straight men.” (Actually, that’s not true anymore — if you try to search for information about sexual assaults in bathrooms, now you mostly get results about from exasperated sexual assault experts debunking the trans bathroom panic myth.)
“You know who the child molester is? It’s Dennis Hastert,” says Maher.
Dan’s right, of course, that banning trans people from bathrooms doesn’t protect anyone. Women are assaulted in bathrooms by men all the time, and it’s not because they used trans-inclusive policies as cover.
But Dan missed one loathsome point from Ann that could have stood some debunking: allowing trans people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their gender doesn’t mean “men can go into women’s bathrooms.” That’s because trans women are women.
Czech Adult Film Star Denis Reed Dies In Motorcycle Accident
Czech adult film star Denis Reed died in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, reportedly skidding into a tree after losing control of the vehicle during a sharp right turn.
The injuries were severe, and the 31-year-old passed in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Among other sites, he appeared in scenes with CzechBoys, Willam Higgins and Staxus. He was also one of the people behind Czech Hunter, which we won’t tell you much about here.

John Oliver Debunks Bullsh*t Scientific Studies: WATCH
You have likely seen a few headlines in your day that purport to use science as a means to prove some strange and obscure finding about how you could be living a healthier life. For instance, “Smelling Farts Might Prevent Cancer.” And that was published by Time.com.
The problem with most of these headlines, and the studies behind them, is that they’re pure bullsh*t, as John Oliver pointed out last night on Last Week Tonight.
Said Oliver,
“There are so many studies being thrown around, they can seem to contradict one another. In just the last few months, we’ve seen studies about coffee that claim it may reverse the effects of liver damage, help prevent colon cancer, decrease the risk of endometrial cancer and increase the risk of miscarriage. Coffee today is like God in the Old Testament. It will either save you or kill you depending on how much you believe in its magic powers. After a certain point, all that ridiculous information can make you wonder, is science bullsh*t?”
Oliver also blasted TV news for regurgitating these studies without questioning them:
“Science is by its nature imperfect, but it is hugely important. And it deserves better than to be twisted out of proportion and turned into morning show gossip.”
The worst example of this is perhaps a Today show segment in which Al Roker said, “I think the way to live your life is you find the study that sounds best to you and you go with that.”
That left Oliver, well, fuming:
“No! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! In science, you don’t just get to cherry-pick the parts that justify what you were going to do anyway. That’s religion. You’re thinking of religion.”
Watch, below.
