#GiveElsaAGirlfriend Sparks Conversation Around the Globe on Twitter

Over the past few days, the twitterverse has been lighting up with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, urging Disney to give Elsa, the protagonist of the hit film Frozen, a girlfriend in the movie’s sequel.

There have been thousands of tweets on the subject worldwide. Tweets from the U.S., Australia, South America, South Africa and Europe have all urged Disney to make Elsa the first LGBT Disney princess.

According to The Washington Post, 17-year-old Alexis Isabel Moncada started the conversation when she first tweeted her musings about a same-sex relationship in Frozen on Sunday. Moncada identifies as bisexual.

“There are more than just one kind of person,” Moncada told NBC 12. “To see the same story over and over about a girl and her prince charming, it’s repetitive, and it leaves so many people out and makes so many people feel alone.”

The deck is stacked against young people growing up LGBTQ in America. HRC’s report, Growing Up LGBT in America, found that nine in 10 LGBTQ youth (92 percent) say they hear negative messages about being LGBTQ. Forty-two percent of respondents reported hearing those messages on movies, TV and radio. Three-quarters (78 percent) of LGBTQ youth say they hear positive messages about being LGBTQ. Fifty-nine percent of respondents reported hearing those messages on movies, TV and radio.

Coming out stories in the media send a strong message of inclusion and acceptance and the importance of embracing your true and authentic self. For LGBTQ youth who struggle to find acceptance, openly LGBTQ characters in movies and TV shows can become role models, providing inspiration and support to those who truly need it.

Ricky Martin’s Crazy Life Gets Incredible Movie Salute

Ricky Martin is so movie-star handsome that his face belongs on the big screen. Until that happens, the next best thing is seeing his signature tune “Livin’ La Vida Loca” performed by some very familiar film personalities, including James Bond and Mary Poppins. The clip was created by video editor Ross Thompson, who runs the fun blog The Unusual Suspect.

A Day In The Life Of Pietro Boselli Is As Charmed (And Hot) As You’d Imagine

A Day In The Life Of Pietro Boselli Is As Charmed (And Hot) As You’d Imagine

Things we already knew about “world’s hottest math teacher” Pietro Boselli: he looks like a Greek statue in his underwear, he’s also the world’s most distracting math teacher, and can we mention the underwear part again?

In other words, we don’t know him all that well, though it’s more than enough to appreciate.

Well after Vogue Paris spent the day with Pietro while he was in Milan for Fashion Week (so many expensive words in one sentence), we can say we know a bit more.

For instance, he started modeling for Giorgio Armani when he was six years old, because of course he did.

After he went viral as a hot math teacher, droves of people showed up at his classes who had nothing to do with the course.

What gave them away? Nobody stares that passionately at a chalkboard of equations unless you’re Stephen Hawking.

Everyone he bumps into in Milan is elated to see him. Wouldn’t you be?

And finally, working as an internationally famous model is more “dynamic and fun” than working in academia. You heard it here first!

American Family Association Traumatizes Kids By Sending Men Into Target Women’s Bathrooms: LISTEN

American Family Association Traumatizes Kids By Sending Men Into Target Women’s Bathrooms: LISTEN

Sandy Rios

Anti-LGBT activists selling horror stories about Target’s transgender-inclusive policy have just proven that their concerns are founded in fact.

The American Family Association (AFA) has been leading a boycott, claiming Target’s policy will lead to open season for “sexual predators.”

In its infinite wisdom, to prove the theory AFA has been sending men into Target’s women’s facilities to test the retailer’s policy.

In an interview with Sandy Rios yesterday on Breitbart News Daily, host Stephen Bannon said that Target is “trying to exclude people who are decent, hard-working people who don’t want their four-year-old daughter to have to go into a bathroom with a guy with a beard in a dress.”

Rios replied:

“I think there’s no question that when you say that there are no barriers in the bathroom and that if men or women feel like they are men or women, the opposition of however they are equipped, and you have no restrictions, the net effect will be that people will not be stopped. We’ve already had people testing this, going into Targets and men trying to go into bathrooms. There is absolutely no barrier.”

Rios didn’t address how the AFA intends to make reparations for the trauma she has inflicted on little girls after sending men into their bathrooms.

As Transgender Equality Legislation Advances, Transgender Pride Flag Flies at Boston City Hall

As Transgender Equality Legislation Advances, Transgender Pride Flag Flies at Boston City Hall

Yesterday, the transgender pride flag flew above Boston City Hall to in support of vital legislation that explicitly prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression in public accommodations in the Bay State.

The flag was raised in conjunction with a revised version of a non-discrimination bill last week.

“In Boston we’ve proven that there is nothing to fear from being inclusive,” Mayor Marty Walsh posted on Instagram. “We are safer, and we are stronger when everyone enjoys the same protections. Proud to fly the #TransFlag over Boston City Hall for the first time in MA history. It will keep flying until we are all equal under the laws of the Commonwealth.”

According to Mason Dunn, executive director of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, this is the first time that a transgender flag was raised in Massachusetts.

HRC is a proud member of Freedom Massachusetts, a joint effort of state and national organizations, including Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, MassEquality, the American Civil Liberties Union, Freedom for All Americans, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, BAGLY, the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth, the Anti-Defamation League and PFLAG. Freedom Massachusetts is working to pass these vital protections.

Currently there is no state law in Massachusetts explicitly prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression in public accommodations. However, Boston passed public accommodations non-discrimination ordinance in 2002.
