DAYTIME. Anderson Cooper says co-hosting Live! with Kelly Rippa would be a “dream” job.

DEMOCRATS. Should Democratic primaries be open or closed in the future?

SPORTS. 20-yeard-old running back Ezekiel Elliott from The Ohio State made a bold move at the NFL draft, showing off a bare midriff on the red carpet.

HEALTH. First reported U.S. death from Zika virus confirmed: “The victim, a [Puerto Rican] man in his 70s, died in February from internal bleeding as a result of a rare immune reaction to an earlier Zika infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Puerto Rico now has 683 confirmed Zika infections in its outbreak, which began in December; 89 are in pregnant women, according to Dr. Ana Ríus, the territory’s health secretary. Fourteen of those women have given birth, and all their babies are healthy, she said.”

CALIFORNIA. Protesters show up in force at CA GOP convention to try and stop Donald Trump from entering. Secret Service outmaneuver protesters and get Trump into the event by having the candidate climb through a ditch.

LAW. The US Department of Justice is reviewing requests to warn North Carolina that HB 2 threatens $4.5 billion in federal funding: “The letter, sent to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and to the White House Counsel, requests they ‘make definitively clear that wholesale requirements of sex discrimination like HB 2 will put federal funding at risk.’ The groups behind the missive are The American Civil Liberties Union, GLBT Legal Advocates & Defenders, Lambda Legal, National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the Transgender Law Center.”

TECH. Apple agrees to try and extract data from iPhone belonging to one of two missing teens who disappeared off the Florida coast: “The phone was found waterlogged, cracked and covered in barnacles — presumably damaged for the past eight months. The families believe it could contain clues — text and social media messages and other clues — concerning the friends’ disappearance.”

WORLD. Pentagon has punished 16 individuals responsible for mistakenly bombing Doctors Without Borders Hospital in Afghanistan: “The punishments for the Oct. 3 attack, which killed 42 people, will be ‘administrative actions’ only, and none of those being disciplined will face criminal charges because the attack was determined to be unintentional. The punishments include suspension and removal from command as well as letters of reprimand, which can seriously damage or end a career.”

GOP. Mike Pence endorses Ted Cruz in the most ‘let me hedge my bets’ way possible: “I’m not against anybody, but I will be voting for Ted Cruz in the Republican primary.”

‘BATHROOM BILLS.’ North Carolina ad agency wants to flush HB 2: “‘We think it’s time to flush North Carolina’s House Bill 2, and we think you probably agree with us,’ Durham-based agency McKinney said in a statement to The Huffington Post, accompanied by a customized roll of TP. ‘To make that safer for city plumbing, we’ve printed the entire bill on rolls of toilet paper.’”

What If The Next “Star Wars” Movie Took Place In A Seedy Gay Bar?

Welcome to The Outer Rim, the galaxy’s premier grungiest destination for dudes to just, you know, be with other dudes.

In the below installment from “The Ryan and Amy Show,” that’s the general setup as Leia stops in just after the events of The Force Awakens to whet both her whistle and something else, if you know what we mean.

With all the Star Wars parodies and spoofs floating around in the vastness of space, this one is worth a watch.

There’s not much to say about this, except that we’d let Zac Efron draw whatever he wanted on our faces, no questions asked.

Zac also reveals below that he thinks you should be able to “draw whatever kind of penis you want in America.”

Transgender South Carolina Student Wins Bathroom Battle

Transgender South Carolina Student Wins Bathroom Battle

Horry County Schools

A South Carolina school district has announced plans to adopt new policies on bathroom use after a transgender student was suspended for using the bathroom matching his gender identity.

The student, identified as R, had been using the boys’ bathroom since middle school. However, he was suddenly told in his senior year of high school that he had to use the girls’ restroom or the nurse’s bathroom. R was suspended when he was seen using the boys’ bathroom by a teacher.

R soon afterwards transferred to an online school to complete his senior year.

Horry County Schools has responded to a demand letter from the Transgender Law Center on behalf of R, warning of legal action unless they acted immediately on the issue.

Horry County Schools is the first district to affirmatively change their policy following a Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals decision earlier this month affirming that transgender students have the right to use facilities that match their gender identity.

The district superintendent said that should R return to school, “he, and all other transgender students, will be allowed to use facilities consistent with their gender identity.” The district has agreed to remove the suspension from R’s record, educate faculty and staff on the appropriate use of pronouns, and update classroom attendance rosters to reflect a student’s preferred name.

On the district’s decision to reverse policies, R’s mother Lynne said:

“We are so grateful and excited about this outcome, and that my son might now be able to walk across the stage and graduate with his class. While this doesn’t erase the harm done to my son, it means a lot to us that no other student in the district will have to go through what my son went through.”

Kris Hayashi, executive director of Transgender Law Center, said “we thank Horry County Schools for finally turning around and doing the right thing by committing to treat transgender students fairly. It is both illegal and wrong to ban transgender students from using the restroom matching the gender they live as every day. The law is clear, and we expect other districts to follow their lead and fall in line – or face the legal consequences.”

Hundreds Attend #RepealHB2 Town Halls Across North Carolina

Hundreds Attend #RepealHB2 Town Halls Across North Carolina

TurnOUT! North Carolina, a coalition of HRC, Equality North Carolina, the ACLU and the Campaign for Southern Equality, recently wrapped up weeks of town halls in cities across the state with advocates dedicated to repealing the deeply discriminatory House Bill 2 (HB2). From Charlotte to Greenville to Raleigh to Greensboro, hundreds of fair-minded people from all walks of life came to learn more about what they could do, share their stories on how the bill has affected them and their families, and provide suggestions for the path forward.

Each town hall had powerful moments. In Raleigh, for example, Hope Tyler spoke emotionally about how her 15-year-old transgender son who had, up until the debate over HB2 broke out, lived as a well adjusted young teenager. She talked about how as he saw this horrible bill pass he became depressed, questioning himself, and whether his community really wanted him. It is stories like this that show how much this awful bill has affected North Carolinians on a deeply personal level.

At the town halls, we also heard a strong and diverse range of support from the faith community. Faith leaders from the Muslim, Baptist, Protestant, and Unitarian communities all spoke out forcefully about the need to repeal HB2.

There is a lot of work to do in North Carolina, but it is clear from the hundreds who came out across the state that we must #RepealHB2.

HRC has field organizers based in Charlotte and the Triangle area working with our coalition partners across North Carolina.

For more information about how to join the efforts to Repeal HB2, contact HRC Associate Regional Field Director Ryan Rowe at [email protected].

URGENT: Take action and tell North Carolina Governor McCrory and Legislative Leadership to REPEAL the state’s new discriminatory anti-LGBT law.
