North Carolina’s HB2 causes W.K. Kellogg Foundation to move $1.5 million conference

North Carolina’s HB2 causes W.K. Kellogg Foundation to move $1.5 million conference
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation was to have held conference at Omni Grove Park Inn for the fifth time.

The seventh-largest philanthropic foundation in the US has canceled plans to hold a $1.5 million conference in North Carolina because of the state’s anti-LGBTI law.

Before the recent passage of HB2, The W.K. Kellogg Foundation had planned to hold its Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation enterprise forum in August at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina.

‘We are cancelling this four-day conference which would have brought over 500 people to North Carolina and generated millions of dollars in economic activity for the state’s local economy,’ the foundation said in a statement.

Omni Grove Park expressed disappointment over the decision.

‘It is unfortunate that the Kellogg Foundation has decided not to have their event at our resort,’ Director of Public Relations & Community Outreach Tracey Johnston-Crum tells WOLS News. ‘That is their business decision and we respect, as we would with any client, their choice of location for their meetings.’

The forum is an opportunity for leaders from across the U.S. discuss how to deal with race, ethnicity and issues of discrimination in relation to healthcare, housing, education, criminal justice and employment.

It will now be held in December and in a different state.

HB2 bans all local LGBTI rights ordinances in the state. It was pushed forward to override an ordinance in Charlotte that would have allowed transgender people to use the bathroom of their gender identification.

‘Policies that deny any member of a community equal rights under the law do not reflect the values of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation,’ the group stated.

‘These actions are counter to our belief that all children deserve to live in families where they and their parents have equal rights and opportunities to thrive.’

Swinger Who “Lost His Top” Shows Off Impressive Talent

We love a healthy dose of cheeky British innuendo, and all the more so when it’s paired with a gorgeous, shirtless foreigner.

In this segment from Britain’s Got More Talent, Michael must first survive the host’s questioning before he’s even able to show off his special skill.

There’s talk of haberdashery, tops and bendy straws — all in a day’s work.

But thirst aside, when Michael finally gets to perform he does not disappoint.

SCIENCE. Scientists made a special camera so they could see glow-in-the-dark sharks: “We’ve already shown that catsharks are brightly fluorescent, and this work takes that research a step further, making the case that biofluorescence makes them easier to see by members of the same species.”

BUSINESS. iPhone sales fall for the first time ever: “The last time Apple’s sales fell year over year was the first quarter of 2003. At that time, the PowerMac was still the company’s bestseller. Apple had sold a grand total of 611,000 iPods. And Apple hadn’t yet launched the iTunes Music Store.”

SPACE. There’s a dwarf planet named Makemake, and contrary to previously held beliefs, it does have a moon: “The discovery should also help resolve one of Makemake’s mysteries: Temperature data has indicated that most of the surface is bright and cold, but some of it is dark and comparatively warm…Perhaps the dark, warm signal emanates not from Makemake’s surface, but from a moon covered with a charcoal-dark material circling Makemake. A dark, warm moon about 100 miles wide would largely agree with the observations, Dr. Parker said.”

ZAC EFRON. The actor had an Oops while filming Baywatch.

PRINCE. Artist reportedly had no will according to his sister.

NORTH CAROLINA. Candidate for Attorney General Buck Newton wants voters to keep to ‘Keep Our State Straight!’: “Go home, tell your friends and family who had to work today what this is all about and how hard we must fight to keep our state straight.”

PRIMARY. Hillary Clinton speaks about diversity and her potential cabinet appointments: “Well, I am going to have a Cabinet that looks like America, and 50 percent of America is women.”

LEMONADE. Rita Ora wants you to know she is not Becky.

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS. Elizabeth Banks debuts her Rita Repulsa look on set.

NAUGHTY. Spanking your kids causes mental health problems later in life, study says: “The upshot of the study is that spanking increases the likelihood of a wide variety of undesired outcomes for children. Spanking thus does the opposite of what parents usually want it to do.”

Dolly Parton has ‘no plans’ to cancel North Carolina concerts because of HB2

Dolly Parton has ‘no plans’ to cancel North Carolina concerts because of HB2
Dolly Parton has been a staunch supporter of LGBTI equality

Dolly Parton, an outspoken supporter of LGBTI equality in recent years, still plans to kick off her 2016 concert tour in Greensboro, North Carolina despite the state’s controversial HB2 law.

‘I have no plans to cancel the show,’ Parton said Tuesday (26 April) during a conference call with reporters about the tour.

‘I believe that everybody ought to be treated with respect, but I feel we will serve better from the stage,’ she added. ‘I don’t like to get caught up in controversial issues. I will address whatever I need to from the stage.’

HB2 bans all local LGBTI rights ordinances in the state.

It was pushed forward to override an ordinance in Charlotte that would have allowed transgender people to use the bathroom of their gender identification.

Artists including Boston, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato and Blue Man Group have called off gigs in the Tar Heel State.

Cyndi Lauper, Joel McHale, and Mumford & Sons performed (or will in the future), promising to donate funds to local LGBTI organizations.
