Trans Woman Asks: 'You Really Want Me In The Same Bathroom As Your Husband?'

One trans woman in Chicago, Illinois, is making a bold, tongue-in-cheek statement in response to Houston, Texas, voters striking down proposed legislation this week that would extend nondiscrimination protections to the LGBT community, including enabling trans people to use bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity.

Kelly Lauren, a transgender woman who has performed as a drag entertainer for 37 years, shared the following photo on her Facebook account Wednesday with the caption “Houston, do you REALLY want me in the same restroom as your husband or boyfriend?”

Lauren decided to share the photo after Houston failed to pass Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance, also known as HERO, which would have prevented discrimination on the basis of race, age, military status, disability and 11 other categories.

Much of the anti-HERO ad campaign involved fear-mongering tactics that aimed to induce anxiety in voters about transgender people using the bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity.

The photo of Lauren, who performs every Wednesday night at Hydrate Nightclub in Chicago, was originally shot by Matthew Mills for a class project.

“I am 54 years old and have been performing for about 37 years as a drag entertainer,” Lauren told The Huffington Post. “I am transgender… The picture was taken several months ago but I reposted it when all of this nonsense happened… All I have to say is that I would get in way more trouble in the men’s room than I could ever possibly in the women’s restroom because I am THAT kind of girl! [laughs]“

This certainly offers a new perspective to the bathroom debate, doesn’t it?

For a couple years, the enigmatic producer behind the act Man Power kept his real life identity secret, while releasing critically acclaimed works on established labels like Hivern Discs and Throne of Blood. But once his masterful recordings became sought-after hits in the underground dance scene across the world, it was clear it was time for him to step out of the shadows.

Following his identity reveal, the Berlin-based producer Geoff Kirkwood shared his debut full-length album this year as Man Power, on the German label Correspondant. And surfing on the waves of the album’s success, Man Power has been working on a series of remixes for different artists, the latest being a techno rework of Kiwi‘s ‘Atlanticus,’ focusing on the original’s haunting bass melody and eventual high hat appearances. The progression of the track from a dark hypnotic, nearly primitive beat into fully realized melodic synth breaks creates a compelling narrative on the dancefloor.

• Barotti shares the first single in anticipation to the release of his debut album, reportedly created in collaboration with a classical orchestra as well as using rare vintage synthesizers. ‘She Once Knew,’ the first single, features a spacey remix by Berlin-based producer Massimiliano Pagliara.
• Hailing from Australia, Tuff Sherm shares ‘Greenhouse Dance,’ a synth-heavy house track with a dark tropical influence which is available for free download.
• Takuya Matsumoto‘s ‘Seasons,’ off of the artist’s upcoming EP Places of Colours, is a wonderfully constructed,light-hearted house record that feels perfectly  suited for a nice outdoor walk in the summer – although in the hands of the right DJ, I can see this being a used as an early-hour “welcome to the dancefloor” moment.
• No stranger to this column, and responsible for one of my favorite albums of the year so far, Fort Romeau announced this past week a new label founded by himself and Ali Tillett. The debut release features Fort Romeau’s ‘Untitled’ track on the A-side, a dreamy tech-house song that is true to his unique style. The B-side, still waiting to see the light of day, is by Panorama Bar resident Nick Höppner, another producer who also released another one of my favorite album this year. Needless to say I’m really looking forward to this one.

Boxer Comes Out As Gay, Explains Why He Lied About Starring In Porn Film

The professional boxer who came out as bisexual after claiming he was drugged and forced into performing in a gay porn film now says he is, in fact, a gay man.  

Yusaf Mack told FOX 29 Thursday that he wanted to set the record straight about his sexuality, and said he’s known the truth for about eight years now. 

“I’m gay. I’m tired of holding it in, it is what it is,” Mack said. “I live my life. I’m gay.” 

The 35-year-old father of 10 also changed his tune when it came to starring in “Holiday Hump’n.” In the adult film, “Philly” (Mack) performs in a threesome alongside two other men who call themselves, “Bamm Bamm” and “Young Buck.”

Although, Mack claimed last week that he must have been drugged to have had sex with other men in the film, he now says he remembers the entire experience. He also said it was the only adult film he’s ever done, and he wasn’t sure when it was going to be released. 

“It was all a lie,” he said. “To try to cover myself up.”

The very public backlash from the video, it seems, has had a personal impact. Mack had been engaged to marry a woman he’d been with for five years before the news hit. He also admitted to having a very tough conversation with his eldest daughter, who suggested he kill himself after the news broke about the film, according to FOX 29. 

The boxer said he has mended fences with his former fiancé, and that his other children have been supportive. 

It’s the latest twist in a case that has gotten progressively more confusing. When he was first approached about “Holiday Hump’n” in mid-October, Mack claimed it wasn’t him in the video, and that he’d never seen it. He quickly changed his story, however, after he said friends convinced him that it was, in fact, him in the movie.  

The film’s producers denied Mack’s initial accusations that he’d been drugged. Earlier this week, he said he’d performed in the film “because at the time I needed money but also because I am a bisexual man.” 

In a statement released to The Shade Room, he said he’d initially lied because his life “was completely destroyed once it had been outed that I participated in a gay film.”

“I selfishly tried to cover the truth and remain in denial, rather than accept the fact that I was leading a double life secretly,” he said in the statement.

Italian Football President To Gays: Ew! Stay Away From Me!

The president of the Italian Football Federation, Carlo Tavecchio, has a message for the gay people of the world: Stay away!

Newly released recordings of Tavecchio speaking to the online publication Soccer Life in June have surfaced on the Internet. In them, Tavecchio is asked about the then-recent sale of an amateur soccer league’s headquarters to an Italian real estate mogul named Cesare Anticoli.

“It was bought by that lousy Jew Anticoli,” Tavecchio allegedly responds.

Later in the tape, he makes a jab at gay people.

“I don’t have anything against gays,” the 72-year-old allegedly says, “but it’s better to keep them away from me!”

Mr. Tavecchio, if you’re reading, we’re pretty sure no gay man will have a problem with keeping his distance from you.

Since the story broke, Tavecchio has claimed he’s the victim of an elaborate blackmail scheme and that he has absolutely no recollection of making the remarks, suggesting the tapes must have been “manipulated.”

Hmmm. Or maybe he was “drugged” like Yusef Mack? Oh wait.

But his excuses aren’t stopping local Jewish and gay rights groups from calling for him to be ousted from the Italian Football Federation.

Renzo Ulivieri, the president of the Italian coaches’ association, said whether or not blackmail was involved, Tavecchio’s alleged remarks were still “out of place.”

“Certain words shouldn’t be pronounced by anyone,” Ulivieri said, “and certainly not by the president of the Italian Football Federation.”

Texas School Reportedly Fires 2 Staff Members For Refusing To Accept Transgender Boy – VIDEO

The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance may have been defeated, but one area school is treating transgender children with dignity and respect.

The Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center in Katy, a Houston suburb, reportedly fired two staff members for refusing to accept a transgender boy as a boy and call him by a boy’s name.

Fox 26, which did a horrible job of reporting on HERO, is still referring to the boy as a girl:

“It caused confusion,” says one employee. At Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center on Clay Road in Katy, Madeline Kirksey says last week she and her staff were told a six-year-old student is transgender. According to Kirksey, the child’s parents cut the girl’s hair short and Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center workers were instructed to start calling the girl a boy and by a boy’s name.

Kirksey was a manager at the school and says she suggested informing all parents. Instead, school administrators allegedly gave staff a handout to refer to if students have questions.

“I don’t think we should be talking to other people’s children who are under the age of 18 about being transgender,” says Kirksey.

The school reportedly handed out a set of guidelines on dealing with transgender students, which said things like “Accord them the same respect you wish for yourself,” “Help defend their dignity,” “Educate yourself and your students” and, “Like the first black student in a white school 30 years ago, the transgender student today faces a population that finds them strange and frightening.”

But Kirksey insisted on notifying parents about the transgender boy. Her termination letter states, “When requested by parent and management to call a transgender child by the child’s new name, Madeline does not follow instructions.” A teacher at the school also says she was fired for raising concerns about the transgender student:

“One day, she wanted to be a girl, the next day she wanted to be a boy,” says Kirksey. “The other kids are confused as well, calling her a boy and she would start screaming, ‘I’m not a boy!’”

According to its website, Children’s Lighthouse operates educational childcare centers in eight states, and serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
