WATCH: Train Hero Stabbed After Leaving Sacramento Gay Bar

A surveillance camera captured a shocking crime that wounded one of the U.S. military men who were hailed as heroes for their actions on a train in France last month: U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone was stabbed several times early Thursday morning as he was leaving a gay club in Sacramento.

Stone is listed in serious condition at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center, reports Gay Star News, and is expected to recover. He received stab wounds in the torso.

Stone was barhopping with three women and another man, according to the Sacramento Bee. Prior to the incident, Stone’s group had been drinking at the Badlands Dance Club in Sacramento, a source told the Bee. They left, and what happened next was a confrontation outside a liquor store that was captured on video.

A surveillance camera caught the melee that pitted Stone and his group against another group of several men. ‘It pretty much just shows the fight in the middle of the intersection,’ employee Bryan Romandia told the Bee:

“It looks like it is one against six, but you can’t really tell. It looks like a big old scrum and then it looks like someone lunges and everyone disperses from there and there is this discoloration on his shirt and he just walks out of the camera. He walks away from the intersection. I couldn’t see any weapon at all.”

No one else was hurt. At a news conference Thursday, Sacramento Deputy Police Chief Ken Bernard told reporters his officers had not yet spoken to Stone and did not know if he had been drinking, but said he faced no criminal charges.

‘We firmly believe that this is not a terrorism related event and that it is in no way related to the incident that occurred in France. The assault does not appear to be a random act and is believed to be a nightlife related incident,’ said a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department in a written statement. Police have the video and are using it as part of their investigation and reportedly have asked local bars for their video as well.

“The assault does not appear to be a random act,” said Bernard. “It’s believed to be related to a nightclub incident.” Police insisted in their statements to the news media that they do not consider this a hate crime:

“There was a dispute that led to the altercation. There was conversation and then it continued down the block to where the stabbing occurred. It would be wrong to believe this had anything to do with the bar.”

Police have no suspects. They described the men involved in the fight as Asian adult males, wearing white T-shirts and jeans, and say they drove off in a dark gray or black Toyota Camry made between 2009 and 2012.

Stone’s parents visited him in the hospital Thursday. The family issued a written statement:

“The family of Airman Spencer Stone appreciates the outpouring of love and support. Airman Stone is in serious condition. His family requests that the media respect his right to privacy at this time.”

Last month, Stone and two childhood friends from Sacramento, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, gained international fame when they subdued a man armed with an assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition on the crowded train on which they were riding in France.

The U.S. Air Force tweeted a request for good wishes on behalf of Stone and his family:

Airman 1st Class Stone is in stable condition. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts. t.co/IQ2Z1YoBra

US Marine has gotten married to boyfriend in viral homecoming kiss photo

US Marine has gotten married to boyfriend in viral homecoming kiss photo

The couple whose photo quickly became a symbol of the post-Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell era in the US got married last weekend in Honeoye Falls, New York.

Back in February 2012, Marine Sergeant Brandon Morgan returned from a six-month  tour of duty in Afghanistan . He jumped into the arms of his strapping boyfriend Dalan Wells at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Their homecoming kiss was captued by their friend, Dave Lewis, who later posted it on a Facebook page titled Gay Marines.

The photo went viral with more than 18,000 people clicking ‘like’ on it in less than 48 hours.

‘This is a homecoming picture—gay, straight, lesbian, no matter who you are, love is love,’ Morgan said in a 2012 interview with the Hawaiian TV station KHON. ‘We haven’t fought for more rights or better rights than anyone. We’ve fought for equal rights, and now we have them.’

Morgan popped the question to Wells in 2013, just a year after a picture of their romantic reunion took social media by storm. They have been together since 2008.

The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy that prevented gay and lesbian military personnel from serving openly officially ended in September 2011.

Matt Bomer opens up about all of his nudity on American Horror Story: Hotel

Matt Bomer opens up about all of his nudity on American Horror Story: Hotel

Matt Bomer’s first scene in the premiere of American Horror Story: Hotel has him completely nude and showing his backside.

That was only the beginning.

Of all the buzz created from this week’s grisly debut, Bomer’s nudity with Lady Gaga and others has been getting the most attention.

‘I think you see more of me in the fist episode than in the entire first two Magic Mikes,’ Bomer told Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show Thursday (8 October).

Bomer explained that while viewers saw a lot of him, they did not see his ‘junk’ because of a flesh-colored sock that he says stays in place with the help of an adjustable plastic band.

‘There’s not much left the imagination,’ he admits. ‘You have a pretty good understanding of somebody’s junk.’

His most memorable nude scene in the premiere is a three minute orgy scene involving his onscreen girlfriend played by Lady Gaga as well as a young, unsuspecting couple they pick up at an outdoor movie.

So what was it like being completely naked with a naked Gaga?

‘There you are in a sock and there’s a guy holding a boom mic eating a jelly donut and you’re trying to have a really intimate moment with someone you may or may not know well,’ Bomer says in the current issue of Details.

‘The circumstances do lend themselves to surreality, but I think because she was gracious, we could approach the scene as actors and have the typical neuroses any actor has in that situation.’

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 3.40.53 PMWhat YouTuber Jack Merridew’s potential Halloween looks lack in surface area, they make up for in numbers.

Clown, sailor, policeman, nerd?! Which is the winning slutty look? He only has three weeks to decide!

Luckily his mom is around to offer her sage advice.

Our advice? You don’t need to say “fuckin’” quite so many times to get your message across. A handful will do, and by the looks of it, that’s exactly what you’ll become to your friends by 3 a.m. on Halloween — a handful.

“I’m only asking for equality,” says Julianne Moore as Det. Laurel Hester in Freeheld, addressing the governing body of Ocean County, N.J., in a moving clip from the movie that its makers have just shared exclusively with The Advocate.

The film documents a piece of LGBT history — in the years before marriage equality, Hester, who had been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, had to fight local politicians to be able to bequeath her pension benefits to her partner, Staci Andree. Ellen Page plays Andree in the movie.

Freeheld opened in limited release last weekend, will be in most major cities tomorrow, and goes into wider release next week. Watch the clip below.

Why I Write Bisexual Romance

Why I Write Bisexual Romance
When I was a child my parents used to say I had “invisible friends” because I was often lost in some make-believe world of my own creation. Other kids wanted to play “cowboys and Indians” — I wanted to play the Indian chief’s pet hawk. I’ve never been good at playing the binary roles proscribed by society: even then I was looking for some alternative. So I invented worlds, other planets and magic realms, and populated them with my invisible friends.

It’s not a big jump from there to being a professional fiction writer.

These days I’m known for writing erotic romance and for being outspoken about “alternative” sexuality. You may have heard the term “bisexual invisibility.” It’s the phenomenon that means unless I’m wearing a T-shirt that says “Nobody Knows I’m Bisexual” OR am currently in the midst of Public Displays of Affection with a male-identified person and a female-identified person at the same time, people who look at me (or any other bisexual) will automatically assume I’m straight. Or maybe if they see me with a woman, they might assume I’m a lesbian.

This has always struck me as weird, since in my mind all people are “bisexual until proven otherwise.” But that’s because I’m an optimist. A bisexual optimist.

The result of living with all these constant assumptions by other people is that to stay sane, I’ve had to find ways to push back against the consensus reality that the mainstream tries to saddle me with. Like the time I wore my Bisexual Pride T-shirt to Disney World in the early ’90s. Talk about invisible friends! Disney employees would sidle up to my family and help us to skip the line, get a better viewing spot for the parade, seat us faster. Many many queerfolk worked at Disney and before they could be open about it, they looked after their own. In those days before Ellen, before Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, before Adam Lambert, before Will and Grace, any kind of queer visibility was precious and to be encouraged.

But I can’t wear that T-shirt every day. The default that people still stamp on me is “straight female.” There must be other ways to push back against the default.

My biggest one is writing itself. When I write, all my characters are bisexual until proven otherwise. My invisible friends earn their keep, not only by being part of how I make my living in fiction writing, but by keeping me sane, by giving me an outlet for all my urges and desires. I write erotic romance and most people make the assumption (there’s that word again) that the urges and desires are all about who I want to sleep with or fall in love with. But they are only half right. The other half of the equation is about who I want to BE.

In what I write I can be a swashbuckling masochist who fucks my way across the kingdom to rescue his true love, I can be a rock star struggling to reconcile his attraction to his lead singer, I can be the sex magician fighting to prove that love is even more important to him than sex itself. I can also be the ingenue having her first BDSM experience or the shy librarian falling for the hunky detective she’s hired to find her missing sister. Only one of these referenced books of mine would probably be categorizable as “bisexual romance,” while the rest are divvied up into gay and straight. Sound familiar?

What makes them “bisexual romance” for me may be invisible to the reader, though, because my characters’ bisexuality, if it’s not brought out by the plot, remains unmentioned. Or sometimes a mention is there, but if you blink–or are blinded by your assumptions–you’ll miss it. I can’t put every character into a Bi Pride T-shirt.

I only just realized while writing this essay that the love interests in my books, even the heterosexual ones, are often somewhere on the genderqueer spectrum. Remember what I said about desire? Is it that I wish for a partner who could “satisfy” a bisexual like me (presumably by covering a larger portion of the gender spectrum that I can be attracted to?), or is it that I am writing about myself, about the way I am pushed back and forth between the straight and gay categories by outside perception even though I myself haven’t changed?

But of course it’s a false dichotomy to ask if it’s one or the other. It’s both, it’s always both, and you’d think as a person who inhabits the gray area in the middle that I’d know that full well. Yet somehow even I have to work to overcome our natural human tendency to break everything into either/or.

“Forget or–embrace and,” one of my heroes is fond of advising. It’s advice perhaps we could all use. If we did, perhaps bisexuality invisibility would instead become the bisexual default. Romance novels–and love–would still be the same, but the palette of choice would be expanded. That only makes it even more exciting when you meet “the one” who makes you fall so hard you feel physically ill when you’re apart, like you literally cannot live without them. For now, for those who can’t live as out bisexuals or who can’t have all the flavors of love in their lives that they wish for, romance novels will have to be the next best thing. They’re a space where readers can try on emotions and relationship styles like costumes–where my invisible friends (and lovers) can become theirs, too.

Lance Bass says he was sexually harassed by ‘pedophile’ while a member of ‘N Sync

Lance Bass says he was sexually harassed by ‘pedophile’ while a member of ‘N Sync

Lance Bass claimed this week that he was victimized someone he describes as a ‘pedophile’ during his days with the band ‘N Sync.

Except he insists didn’t feel like a victim.

‘When we started there was someone that we worked with that was inappropriately touching us,’ Bass said on The Meredith Vieira Show Wednesday (7 October).

‘I was even aware then, at 16, that this guy was a pedophile, and he was touching me oddly. But I didn’t feel victimized at the time because I was very aware of it.’

Bass, now 36, did not name the alleged ‘pedophile’ or elaborate on why being ‘aware’ of what was going on resulted in his not feeling victimized.

Bass, now a regular panelist on Vieira show, brought up the long ago alleged incidents while discussing Ashley Judd’s recent claims that she was sexually harassed by a Hollywood mogul.

‘This also happens to men, too. It’s a two-way street,’ Bass said. ‘It had happened to me when I was 16, 17 years old.’

‘N Sync was together from 1995 to 2002 and the other band members were Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick.

‘We would kind of joke about it, but it’s not a joking thing,’ Bass said. ‘But as a kid, it was just odd. I am glad that we were aware of it and we didn’t feel victimized at the time.’

The team’s goal is to create a safe space for rugby players of all sexual orientations, backgrounds and experience to come together, free of the bullying and bias that often comes with non-gay team sports.
