A bed, a desk and a kettle, with a Tesco or ASDA nearby, may tick the boxes for most students, but not for those who’ll move into Mayfair’s Fountain House, a nine-storey luxury property overlooking Hyde Park.

First to snatch up one of six ‘ultimate student digs’ was a 19-year old fashion design student from North America: their new luxury three-bedroom apartment will cost them a monthly rent of £21,000 (€28,417, $31,936.49).

Luxury is paramount for the six Fountain View student pads.

All properties cost a minimum of £2,250 (€3,044.68, $3,421.76) per week and are marketed by estate agent Wetherell; over 80% of enquiries for the student pads have come from overseas, the estate agent revealed.

The apartments' open-plan kitchen/dining areas are fit for dinner parties.

Government statistics show that there are about 67,000 non-EU students attending universities in London, spending £1.32 billion (€1.79 billion, $2.01 billion) on accommodation and other living costs each year.

The chances of the residents using their state-of-the-art kitchen to heat up a ready meal are probably rather slim.

There’s no doubt students living in these Mayfair flats are worlds away from ‘standard’ students in the UK – instead of hitting Tiger Tiger for a night out, they’re expected to enjoy the perks of nearby members clubs, such as Annabel’s or 5 Hertford Street.

Elegantly furnished, the spacious master bedrooms also feature walk-in dressing rooms.

The designer kitchens boast fitted grey units, stone worktops and integrated Miele appliances, and the master bedrooms feature plush deep carpets, walk-in dressing rooms and large master bathrooms decked in stone and marble.

A grand pillared main entrance foyer, with a 16-foot ceiling, hotel-style concierge desk and cozy seating for arriving guests completes the luxurious feeling.

Peter Wetherell, Chief Executive of Wetherell, calls the apartments ‘perfect for a wealthy student’ or ‘ideal for a City stockbroker, successful lawyer or couple wanting a London home’; he expects the apartments to be let just in time for the new term to start.

Matt Damon Warns Gay Actors To Stay In The Closet

Matt Damon Warns Gay Actors To Stay In The Closet

matt-damon-2-537x357Matt Damon has a message for closeted actors — stay put if you want the career you’ve always dreamed of.

Or else, end up like — god forbid — Rupert Everett. (You could do worse.)

Damon told the Guardian: “I don’t want to, like [imply] it’s some sort of disease – then it’s like I’m throwing my friends under the bus.”

Cue the “but.”

“But at the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly gay and this guy – more handsome than anybody, a classically trained actor – it’s tough to make the argument that he didn’t take a hit for being out.”

And hey, maybe he has a point. But maybe he doesn’t. He also had to go back nearly 20 years to find an example to support his theory — surely the landscape has changed a bit since Everett came out in 1997? Zachary Quinto, Neil Patrick Harris, Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer and Wentworth Miller seem to be doing alright for themselves, but would they be even bigger names if the world still thought they were straight shooters?

Related: Rupert Everett Says Coming Out Killed His Career

Back when Damon and Ben Affleck hit the scene running with Good Will Hunting, there were more than a few gay rumors flying around about the two golden boys.

At the time, he told Playboy: “I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay – as if being gay were some kind of fucking disease. It put me in a weird position in that sense. The whole thing was just gross.”

Damon went on to say in the Guardian that all actors should be in the closet, so to speak.

“In terms of actors, I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period,” Damon explained.

“And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Matt Damon Suggests Gay Actors In Hollywood Are More Successful If They Stay In The Closet

Matt Damon Suggests Gay Actors In Hollywood Are More Successful If They Stay In The Closet

matt damon

In a new interview, Matt Damon addresses old rumors about his and Ben Affleck’s respective sexual orientations and also suggests that gay actors in Hollywood are more successful if they stay in the closet.

Asked by The Guardian if he thought it was harder for actors to be openly gay in Hollywood, Damon remarked, “I’m sure. When Ben and I first came on the scene there were rumors that we were gay because it was two guys who wrote a script together.” Elaborating on that period in Hollywood (the late 90s), he spoke of the stigma that he saw attached to being openly gay. He sights Rupert Everett as an example of an openly gay male actor who he believes suffered because of homophobia in Hollywood:

“I know. It’s just like any piece of gossip… and it put us in a weird position of having to answer, you know what I mean? Which was then really deeply offensive. I don’t want to, like [imply] it’s some sort of disease – then it’s like I’m throwing my friends under the bus. But at the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly gay and this guy – more handsome than anybody, a classically trained actor – it’s tough to make the argument that he didn’t take a hit for being out.”

Everett has previously said that being openly gay hurt his career and has urged young gay actors to stay in the closet. A point Damon may agree with:

“I think it must be really hard for actors to be out publicly,” he continues. “But in terms of actors, I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Pope Francis: Government Workers Like Kim Davis Have a 'Human Right' to Refuse Their Duty

Pope Francis: Government Workers Like Kim Davis Have a 'Human Right' to Refuse Their Duty

Pope Francis said government officials have a “human right” to refuse to do their job if they feel it violates their religious conscience, such as issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, reported Reuters.

His on the record, off-the-cuff conversation with reporters aboard the papal plane taking him home after a 10-day trip to the United States and Cuba, marked his first comments on the controversy over the licensing of same-sex marriages in the U.S., which the Roman Catholic Church firmly opposes.

Reuters reports the pope was asked if he supported individuals, including government officials, who refuse to abide by some laws, such as issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.

“Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right,” Francis said.

It was on the papal plane in 2013 that Pope Francis uttered his famous statement about gay priests: “If someone is gay and seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to judge?” The Advocate named Pope Francis its Person of the Year in part for that surprising remark.

This time, his statements on the controversy surrounding Kentucky clerk Kim Davis were less than surprising. Speaking in Italian, Reuters reports the pope did not name Davis in his defense of her actions.

“I can’t have in mind all cases that can exist about conscientious objection but, yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right,” said Francis. “And if someone does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right,” he added.

“Otherwise we would end up in a situation where we select what is a right, saying: ‘This right has merit, this one does not.'”

Pope Francis Should Have Taught Tolerance to UN's Kutesa, a Supporter of Uganda's anti-LGBT Law

Pope Francis Should Have Taught Tolerance to UN's Kutesa, a Supporter of Uganda's anti-LGBT Law
When Pope Francis met with Sam Kutesa, the outgoing President of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday in New York, the pontiff should’ve taught the Ugandan foreign minister the meaning and importance of tolerance.

Responding to a question by a journalist about the sexual orientation of priests on July 29, 2013 the Pontiff memorably said: “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Mr. Kutesa, on the other hand, supported Uganda’s cruel anti-LGBT law; when first debated in Parliament, it called for a death sentence by hanging for same-sex relations. The version signed into law on February 24, 2014 by Kutesa’s boss, the dictator Gen. Yoweri Museveni, was supposedly more “humane” and imposed life sentences for same-sex relations.

Before the bill was signed into law President Obama referred to it as “odious.

When Kutesa’s boss Gen. Museveni was asked by a CNN reporter after he’d signed the law what he thought about gays he said they were “disgusting” and in a related press conference said scientists should draw their blood to study why they were “abnormal.”

The law was voided by a Uganda court because Parliament didn’t have a quorum when it passed it, meaning it can be re-introduced, and some of Mr. Kutesa’s fellow lawmakers have already discussed doing that.

As a result of Kutesa’s support for the law, last year, I launched a campaign on Change.org to try and block him from winning the post of President of the United Nations General Assembly; it garnered 15,822 signatures from all over the world.

Several prominent U.S. officials also challenged Kutesa’s nomination, as a result of the campaign. They were: U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer; U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel; and, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer.

Even though Kutesa still assumed the post on June 11, 2014, the campaign forced global media for the first time to focus on the inhumane nature of the anti-LGBT law and on the conduct of the brutal dictatorship that Gen. Museveni, with aides like Mr. Kutesa, has presided over Uganda for 30 years.

Kutesa learned nothing from that experience. Several months into his new job, he insulted the LGBT activists who had opposed his candidacy, calling them “frogs” according to a report in Uganda’s leading newspaper The Daily Monitor, when he visited his country.

As a result of the charged public rhetoric and demonization of the LGBT community by the regime in which Kutesa serves as foreign minister, attacks against them went up 10-fold according to The Guardian in an article last year. Uganda’s anti-LGBT law represents the antithesis of the U.N.’s ideals of inclusion and advocacy of rights for all human beings regardless of race, national origin, religion and sexual orientation.

Pope Francis has also focused on denouncing corruption including at the Vatican itself.

In addition to his support for the anti-LGBT law, Kutesa also was unsuited to be President of the U.N. General Assembly because of his links to major corruption scandals including alleged involvement in the embezzlement of $150 million in public funds and alleged acceptance of bribes from oil companies, which were both covered in the BBC and other outlets.

What’s more, in a U.S. embassy cable dated January 13, 2010, leaked by Wikileaks, then U.S. ambassador to Uganda Jerry Lanier recommended that the U.S. revoke Kutesa’s visa and that “We regard Kutesa’s corruption as egregious….”

Mr. Kutesa even put the United Nations itself on the spot. It turns out that he had never told the United Nations that he was an owner of a company called Entebbe Handling Services (ENHAS) which won a multi-million dollar UN contract to handle cargo and equipment for peace keeping operations in the region. Records show that between 2008 to 2013 ENHAS was paid at least $29.2 million under the contracts. During that entire period Mr. Kutesa was, and today remains, foreign affairs minister of Uganda.

What if it were suddenly revealed that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, whose role is the equivalence of foreign minister, all along, owned a company he had never told the UN about and earned nearly $30 million through UN contracts with his company? Would he not resign in disgrace and face possible prosecution?

Even though Kutesa claims he “suspended” his role with ENHAS last June when he took the UN post, this merely confirms that he had engaged in conflict of interest between 2008 to 2013. This is serious and needs to be investigated; perhaps the UN is even entitled to refund of monies, some of which was likely American taxpayers’, as the U.S. contributes about 27% of the UN peace keeping budget.

Thankfully, Mr. Kutesa’s term comes to a close this month. His successor is Mogens Lyketoft, Denmark’s former speaker of Parliament, who is now President-Elect of the United Nations General Assembly.

On Friday, when Pope Francis met with the Ugandan at the United Nations it would’ve been a great opportunity to insist that gay people are not “disgusting” as Mr. Kutesa’s president said; and to have taught him some of the wisdom and compassion that the Pope has become renowned for.

Readers can show support by asking The Holy See’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Ambassador Archbishop Bernardito Auza to convey this message to Pope Francis by signing the new PETITION or calling the Holy See’s Mission at (212) 370-7885.

Straight 24-year-old answers questions after getting engaged to a gay ‘sugar daddy’ worth $11 million

Straight 24-year-old answers questions after getting engaged to a gay ‘sugar daddy’ worth $11 million

Relationships come in all forms, but this might be one of the strangest.

A 24-year-old straight guy has revealed he is engaged to a very wealthy 51-year-old gay man. They’ve been ‘going out’ for two years. They have sex, as long as the sugar daddy buys him anything the guy wants.

Posting on Reddit, he asked the community to ask him questions from how they met, how the sex is and what happens if the older guy wants to trade him in for a younger model…

Do you have sex with each other?

Yes, we have sex.

Do you engage in one night stands with women?

Yeah, I can still hook up with women just so long as I don’t bring any home with me. So either at their place or a hotel or something.

What’s the point of getting married without a romantic connection?

You’d have to ask him I guess, since I’d ask what’s the point of a romantic connection in the first place. For what it’s worth I kind of fake one for him, although he knows I’m faking.

Are you the top or bottom?

Usually I bottom but sometimes he wants me to fuck him.

How did you two meet?

He went to the same gym I went to and we had pretty much the same workout schedule so we’d see each other often and he’d very obviously hit on me.

How would you respond? I’m curious where the tipping point was. He must have been kind of pushy unless you were entertaining it from the start?

He’s the kind of person that will start up a conversation with anyone that will let him, but with me it was especially so because he was very obviously into me. At first I just ignored his flirting for a while, then told him I was straight and he backed off a bit but started up again so I just let him flirt. I guess the “tipping point” is when he kind of hinted that it’d be worth my while. Originally I just agreed to have sex with him, but very soon he really wanted to take me out on dates and stuff and we came to an arrangement.

About how much do you stand to inherit?

Whatever is left when he dies, which will probably be more than what he has now, which is around 11 million.

How’s the sex?

I can get off from it. P-gasms can feel pretty awesome when I have them. But it’s not that great for me since he’s not a chick. He thinks it’s great though.

Is having sex with him similar to having sex with a woman whom you aren’t interested in? That is, his being male doesn’t really mean much beyond it making him not the primary type of person you are attracted to?

I wouldn’t say it’s similar to having sex with a woman, but it’s not really that big of a deal. I can get off during it so that’s alright, but it’s not something I particularly look forward to. He’s pretty much the one that always initiates it and I just go along with it.

Do you really like him as a person and enjoy spending time with him?

He’s interesting to be around. I don’t think I’d spend nearly as much time with him as I do now if it weren’t for our arrangement, and I wouldn’t have gotten to know him well enough to find out he’s pretty interesting.

Does he have any kids? If so, what do they think of your relationship?

Nope, he has no kids and doesn’t want any. I don’t want any so that was kind of a prerequisite to getting married.

How much money do you get? and how and where do you spend?

He basically just keeps my account ‘topped up’ each month, so I guess the amount of money I’m getting depends on how much I spend. I spend money going out with friends, buying girls drinks in an attempt to sleep with them, Steam, whatever really. The nice thing about having a lot of money is you can just buy whatever suits your fancy.

What’s your daily routine like?

Wake up whenever, do whatever I want until 11am, workout, shower, do whatever until I go to sleep whenever. I don’t really have a routine except for working out, which is like half the point in my opinion.

What do your parents/family/peers know/make of this situation?

I just told them I was bi. No one I know (at least know well) gives a shit if I’m straight, gay or bi or whatever else so that wasn’t a big deal. The only thing people thought was worth mentioning was the age gap. The one person who knows that I’m straight and just in it for the money is my best friend, and her reaction was something like ‘Does he have any friends who are also rich?’ It was just a joke of course, but she thought it was a pretty sweet deal.

How do you define your sexuality? Based on what you comment, you don’t fit the dictionary definition of a heterosexual. I am really curious about this.

I consider myself straight. I just don’t make a huge deal out of a dick going into an ass. Cause it’s really not that big of a deal. Not my choice of “fun”, but it’s not like it’s gonna be terrible and going in with that it’s going to feel good physically regardless of if you’re attracted to dudes or chicks or both.

Do you swallow? Would he be considered handsome by other gay guys his age? Do you worry that you may get too old for him and he’ll divorce you for a newer model?

Yeah, I swallow if he finishes in my mouth. I’d guess he looks alright for his age but I don’t think most younger gay dudes would be throwing themselves at him (although who knows, the younger-older thing seems to be kind of a thing for gay dudes). He actually seems to be more about the “relationship” than just having sex with younger dude so I’m not too worried about that.

Also, are you ok fucking a guy and being married for the next 40 years of your life (in the case he lives to 90) for the final payout?

Yeah, I’m pretty okay with it. Plus I don’t have to work now and I can afford to buy whatever I want (or rather he can afford to buy whatever I want).

Do you feel bad at all?

Nah, I see it as a mutually beneficial thing. I’d say I’m getting the better deal but it’s up to him what it’s worth to him.

Smithers From 'The Simpsons' Is Finally Coming Out As Gay

Smithers From 'The Simpsons' Is Finally Coming Out As Gay

A major “Simpsons” character is set to come out as gay

Smithers’ sexuality will be dealt with in two episodes in season 27 of the Fox series, executive producer Al Jean told TV Line. While most characters (and viewers) know Smithers’ affections for his wealthy boss Mr. Burns, Burns himself is oblivious.

“In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t,” he said. “We deal with that in two episodes… We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

Season 26’s “The Princess Guides” showed Smithers daydreaming about Burns coming out to him, an episode that critics noted for covering Smithers’ sexuality most explicitly.

A 2013 study featured in the book Behind the Gay Laughter: Homosexuality in “The Simpsons” suggested that “The Simpsons” has helped gay men come out because of the way in which it has featured same-sex relationships, including Smithers and Burns’ relationship and Homer Simpson kissing other men

“As a result, ‘The Simpsons’ conveys to an audience of millions a typically American, but an uncharacteristically open-minded, image of gays and lesbians,” reads a synopsis of the book on Amazon, as translated by The Huffington Post. “Despite the fallback to stereotypes, an intelligent, fair and entertaining handling of homosexuality can be observed in ‘The Simpsons.'”

Stonewall is officially a major flop at the box office

Stonewall is officially a major flop at the box office

So it turns out that centering your true history LGBTI biopic around a fictional cis white dude is probably not the greatest idea in the world.

Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall, the film attacked for whitewashing the real life trans heroes out of existence, tanked at the weekend box office.

The Hollywood Reporter has said the film has grossed only $112,414 from 127 theaters. That’s an average of $871.

This is a bomb for the openly gay director, who said he wanted to make a LGBTI film for ‘straight people’.

He previously told Buzzfeed: ‘You have to understand one thing: I didn’t make this movie only for gay people, I made it also for straight people.

‘I kind of found out, in the testing process, that actually, for straight people, [Danny] is a very easy in. Danny’s very straight-acting. He gets mistreated because of that. [Straight audiences] can feel for him.’

Other films had better opening weekends. Animated film Hotel Transylvania 2 won with $47.5 million, with Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway comedy The Intern coming in second with $18.2 million.
