Sun, Surf And Skin Are Among The Pleasures Of Barcelona's Circuit Festival
Sun, Surf And Skin Are Among The Pleasures Of Barcelona's Circuit Festival
Known as a glittering metropolis of sun and surf, Barcelona is currently playing host to an estimated 72,000 gay travelers from around the world.
They’ve come for the annual Circuit Festival, which organizers have touted Europe’s largest gay and lesbian celebration. Since it was first established in 2008, the festival has been the place to see and be seen for many gay globetrotters, with parties, dances and other activities created specifically for the community spread out over 12 days, between Aug. 5 and 16.
As these sizzling photos attest, one of the Circuit Festival’s many highlights is the daytime Water Park Day. An estimated 8,000 swimsuit-clad merrymakers touched down on the Isla Fantasia Water Park in Vilassar de Dalt for the splashy fête, which is billed as the biggest open-air gay party on the continent.
Once the Circuit Festival wraps in Barcelona, the festivities move on to Ibiza. Another 25,000 people are expected to attend that installment, which kicks off Aug. 19.
Based on the photos below, there’s no question the festivities were memorable!

Gay basketball player in Kentucky only team member left out of high school yearbook spread
Gay basketball player in Kentucky only team member left out of high school yearbook spread
Dalton Maldonado was the starting guard on the boys basketball team at Betsy Layne High School in rural Kentucky.
But inexplicably, he was the only team member to not be included in a two-page yearbook spread that featured all of the seniors on the team.
He also happens to be the only team member who was openly gay.
‘I recently saw my senior yearbook, I flipped right to the sports basketball page only to find my senior basketball picture missing…which devastated me,’ Maldonado wrote on his Facebook page.
Maldonado had come out to his teammates this spring on the day that a kid on an opposing team tried to humiliate him by calling him a faggot in front of the entire team and their fans at a basketball tournament.
‘They all stood by my side in spite of the other team trying to scare and intimidate me because of my sexuality,’ he wrote.
The incident received national attention when it was featured on the site Outsports.com which broke the story Wednesday (12 August) about the yearbook snub.
Maldonado wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday that he has received good wishes and support from across the country and also got a call from the superintendent of schools.
‘He told me that I was in the annual fifteen times, and that they may have overlooked my senior basketball picture,’ he wrote. ‘He went on to say that they were going to make a new annual and he hoped I knew they were so proud of me.’
Still, Maldonado believes the school has attempted to sweep under the rug his being harassed and coming out to his teammates.
‘I refuse to let this happen again!’ he wrote. ‘I was a senior point guard who had played for three years, and I was even in the center of the team picture. I don’t care if I was in other parts 100 times, my individual picture wasn’t in there! I find it unbelievable that their “investigation” took less than one whole school day and once again they’re just letting it go! I will not stop fighting this.
‘No one deserves this, and I’ll make sure no other LGBT teen in Floyd (County) has to face this type of discrimination!’

Straight Guys React To Skimpy Gay Underwear
Straight Guys React To Skimpy Gay Underwear
Gay underwear design can get a little confusing if you don’t know how the various straps and holes are meant to align on the body.
Good thing there are lots of pretty pictures to use as models while discerning front from back.
But how do straight guys feel about these sinfully suggestive undergarments?
Cue the awkwardness:

Former Child Star Calls Out Roland Emmerich: Stonewall Wasn’t One of His Parties for ‘Young, Fit, White, Gay Men’
Former Child Star Calls Out Roland Emmerich: Stonewall Wasn’t One of His Parties for ‘Young, Fit, White, Gay Men’
There’s been plenty of controversy and consternation over the trailer for Roland Emmerich’s gay rights bio-pic, Stonewall, and its fictionalized depiction of the actual events that spurred on the beginning of the modern gay rights movement.
Now joining in the chorus of critics is former child star Mara Wilson (whom you may recall from Matilda, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Miracle on 34th Street).
Mara took Emmerich to task on Twitter, tweeting,
“Has anyone told Roland Emmerich that Stonewall wasn’t one of the parties at his house exclusively for young, fit, white, gay men[?] Go ahead and have your parties, but don’t try to alter history. It’s just sad. Emmerich has said it was the studios that made him change it, buuuuut somehow I’m not buying it.”

Famed activist Larry Kramer recently spoke out against critics of the film. Matt Baume, ever educational, for his part offered some insight on how Emmerich’s trailer stacks up to reality (or what we know of reality).
Emmerich himself has spoken out about the controversy, saying,
“When this film – which is truly a labor of love for me – finally comes to theaters, audiences will see that it deeply honors the real-life activists who were there — including Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Ray Castro — and all the brave people who sparked the civil rights movement which continues to this day.”
Meanwhile, an online petition to boycott the film has received nearly 23,000 signatures.
What do you think of the continuing controversy over Stonewall?

Underwear for the Boy Inside You: The Birth of Nenewear</em>
Underwear for the Boy Inside You: The Birth of Nenewear</em>
In many Spanish speaking countries, “nene” is a term of endearment used to address men, even strangers.
In the latest episode of The Nicholas Snow Show, I interview Efrén Sánchez, Creative Director of Nenewear, the men’s underwear line “that celebrates the boy that exists within us.” Also joining the interview, Efrén’s partner in life and business, Brandon Boswell (They’re both pictured below, with one of their models).
Listen to the podcast below, or at this page on the BlogTalkRadio Network.
In many Spanish speaking countries, ‘nene’ is a term of endearment used for males. It is used towards each other amongst strangers and friends. When asked what nene means to him: Efren replies, ‘Everyone used to call my Cuban grandpa ‘viejo nene’ which translates to old boy. Where I come from you can be a nene your entire life. It’s all about how you feel.’
The Nenewear collaborators on location at Snapshot Palm Springs for one of their photo shoots.
The launch announcement released earlier this year explains:
After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in NYC, Efrén wanted to create an underwear line to exude the sex appeal of confident men. As a Cuban who was raised in Puerto Rico, Efrén’s Latin American heritage is palpable not only on the brand’s name but in the collection itself. The color palette is as vibrant as the colors on the streets of Old San Juan where he grew up.
Nenewear is made in the USA with the finest textiles and quality materials, including mother of pearl buttons on their boxer briefs. The company specifically prides itself on the soft velvety texture of its stretch waistband.
‘Regardless of age, we all have that nene inside us that is curious, playful and mischievous. I wanted to create a line of high quality, sexy, handmade men’s underwear to indulge that nene within me.’
Okay folks, while you listen to the interview, I’m off to take a cold shower!
