Pat Robertson urges viewer to ‘stay far away’ from friend who doesn’t consider homosexuality a sin
Pat Robertson, longtime host of TV’s The 700 Club, urged a viewer on Monday (10 August) to steer clear of a friend who doesn’t think homosexuality is a sin.
The viewer wrote in about visiting a church with a Christian friend and being ‘shocked’ to see a pastor who was openly gay and being willing to talk about it with everyone.
The friend said he accepted the pastor because he and does not believe being gay is a sin.
The viewer left the church because of this ‘sin against Christianity’ and asked Robertson if this was the right thing to do.
Robertson, 85, said it was.
‘The bible is very explicit about that. In the old testament it’s called an abomination, it’s an abomination for a man to lie with a man as with a woman – an abomination. … to have a church telling people it’s not a sin, it’s okay. They are leading people down the road to perdition. It’s a shame.
‘If I were you I’d stay far away from him,’ he added. ‘We love the sinner but hate the sin.’
Robertson’s long list of anti-gay comments continues to grow.
In the past he has compared same-sex weddings to ‘man-dog weddings,’ has advised parents to skip same-sex weddings of their children, claimed some gays in San Francisco try and spread AIDS with a special ring, and said that ending the Boy Scouts gay ban could lead to ‘predators’ and ‘pedophiles as scout masters’
Robertson has also claimed homosexuality ‘is somehow related to demonic possession,’ said Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment in response to America’s abortion policy and that gays and lesbians were partly to blame for the Sept. 11 attacks on the US.
