Everything We Know About 'American Horror Story: Hotel'
Everything We Know About 'American Horror Story: Hotel'
We now know who the main characters are in “American Horror Story: Hotel,” the real-life incident that inspired the season and when it will debut.
On Friday, the cast and creators of “AHS: Hotel” revealed a slew of new details about the upcoming season during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. We’ve compiled a list of everything we know about Season 5 of the anthology series so you’re fully prepared to check in on Oct. 7.
- The name of the titular hotel will be Hotel Cortez, set in downtown Los Angeles.
- The new season will be more like Season 1. Co-creator Brad Falchuk described “Hotel” as more “noir-y” and said the horror will be “dripping out of” the hotel.
- The new season was inspired by a surveillance video of a girl who went missing after she entered an elevator in a downtown hotel. “She was never seen again,” Ryan Murphy said at the TCA panel. While it’s not confirmed, we have a strong theory that Murphy was referring to the death of Elisa Lam, a woman who was last seen in the lobby of LA’s Cecil Hotel in 2013 and was found dead in one of the hotel’s rooftop water tanks.
- Lady Gaga plays Elizabeth, the owner of the hotel. Murphy described her as “a very wealthy social doyenne who is consumed with art and fashion and people.” Elizabeth also has a nefarious plan that unravels over the course of the season. Don’t expect any musical moments from Gaga this season, though.
- Sarah Paulson is Hypodermic Sally, who lives at the hotel and hates Kathy Bates’ Iris. The actress described Sally as “a nasty gal” who is “quite dark.” “She’s sexy, she’s a drug addict,” Paulson said at the panel. “Not that drug addicts are sexy, but she’s sexy.” Sally also has a “budding something” with Wes Bentley’s character.
- Kathy Bates is Iris, who Bates described as “very, very sexy.” Iris runs the hotel and has a relationship with Matt Bomer and Wes Bentley’s characters.
- Denis O’Hare plays a character named Elizabeth Taylor, who the actor described as “a person inspired by the awesomeness” of Taylor’s movies, such as “Cleopatra” and “Butterfield 8.” In the show, Liz Taylor works at the hotel bar, the Blue Parrot Lounge, with Iris.
- Matt Bomer is Donovan who has a “very interesting” relationship with Gaga’s Elizabeth.
- Wes Bentley plays Detective John Lowell who is investigating gridly murders that lead him to check into the hotel. John is married to Chloë Sevigny‘s Alex who is dealing with a loss in the family.
- Finn Wittrock plays Tristan Duffy, a male model who is “always looking for the next high and finds the biggest high in Lady Gaga.” Wittrock said Gaga “sees all of [him],” whatever that means.
- Cheyenne Jackson plays Will Drake, a fashion icon who has moved from New York to Los Angeles.
- Angela Bassett plays Romana Royale, an actress who Bassett said is “sexy as hell.” Romana has a strong, lasting relationship with Gaga’s character. She doesn’t live in the hotel, but she visits often.
- Murphy revealed that characters from previous “AHS” seasons will begin checking in to “Hotel” starting with Episode 6.
- Evan Peters will play Mr. March, and will be “evil” along with Paulson, Bates, Bassett and Bomer’s characters.
- Lily Rabe will portray a famous serial killer on “Hotel.”
- Naomi Campbell will guest star as a fashion editor who will face off with Gaga’s Elizabeth.
- Darren Criss will reportedly appear on “Hotel” for a Halloween episode as Justin, a Silver Lake hipster, according to E! Online. Justin will apparently have some drama with Bates’ Iris after he has too many room service demands.
“American Horror Story: Hotel” will premiere on Oct. 7 on FX.

Donald Trump, once again, insults Rosie O’Donnell during Republican debate
Donald Trump, once again, insults Rosie O’Donnell during Republican debate
It was The Donald versus Rosie all over again.
During the first Republican presidential debate on Thursday (6 August), moderator Megyn Kelly asked current front-runner Donald Trump about his various insults aimed at women over the years.
‘You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,’ Kelly began before being interrupted by Trump who said: ‘Only Rosie O’Donnell.’
Kelly replied: ‘No it wasn’t. For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell.’
The audience laughed.
“For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell,” Kelly responded before continuing her question.
O’Donnell soon tweeted: ‘try explaining that 2 ur kids.’
The Trump-O’Donnell feud began nearly a decade ago when O’Donnell, during her first stint as a co-host on ABC’s The View, ridiculed Trump for his handling of a Miss USA controversy calling him a ‘snake-oil salesman’ and mocked his hairstyle.
Trump responded by unleashing a tirade of insults aimed at O’Donnell’s weight (she has since lost more than 50 pounds) and has called her a ‘loser’ various times.
‘She’s an extremely unattractive person who doesn’t understand the truth. … I think she’s a terrible person … She has failed at everything she has done… She’s a bully and she sucker punches people,’ Trump said on CNN’s Larry King Live at that time.
O’Donnell, who rejoined The View last September the left again in February, reflected on the Trump insults last year.
‘Probably the Trump stuff was the most bullying I ever experienced in my life, including as a child,’ she told People Magazine. ‘It was national, and it was sanctioned societally. Whether I deserved it is up to your own interpretation.’
The debate was watched by 24 million people.

Mike Huckabee Gets it Wrong Yet Again
Mike Huckabee Gets it Wrong Yet Again
In last night’s GOP debate on Fox News, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee reiterated his stance against the LGBT community, this time focusing on the military’s ban on transgender service.

GOP Debate Proves Candidates Still See Bashing Gays As A Winning Issue
GOP Debate Proves Candidates Still See Bashing Gays As A Winning Issue
One thing is clear from the debates with the GOP presidential candidates: When it comes to LGBT issues, you can’t be extreme enough. In an effort to convince the ever-dwindling base that they are pure on social issues, the majority of the candidates made clear their disdain for marriage equality and transgender rights.
Of course, what would you expect one of the debate questions was from a Facebook poster who asked “what has God been saying to [the candidates] out running for president?” and the media attention was on a reality TV star who has declared corporate bankruptcy four times.
Here’s a sample of the all-too-usual slams:
- “The military is not a social experiment. The purpose of the military to kill people and break things.” Mike Huckabee on why transgender people should be banned from the military.
- “I don’t want my marriage or my guns registered in Washington.” Rand Paul, who would get government out of the marriage business altogether.
- “It is not [settled], any more than Dred Scott was settled law to Abraham Lincoln. … This is a rogue Supreme Court decision.” Rick Santorum on the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling.
There were also the expected defense of religious liberty (aka, the right not to bake gay wedding cakes) from Paul, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal,
The one exception to the red-meat rhetoric was Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who just squeaked by into the big-boys forum, elbowing out more reliably homophobic former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Fox moderator Megyn Kelly asked Kasich how he would explain his opposition to marriage equality if he had a lesbian daughter. Kasich gave a response out of both sides of his mouth that had the crowd applauding.
“Look, I’m an old-fashioned person here and I happen to believe in traditional marriage. But I’ve also said that the court has ruled … and I said we’ll accept it,” Kasich said. “And guess what? I just went to a wedding of a friend of mine who happens to be gay. Because somebody doesn’t think the way I do doesn’t mean that I can’t care about them or I can’t love them. So if one of my daughters happened to be that, of course I would love them and I would accept them. Because you know what? That’s what we’re taught when we have strong faith.”
The cheering audience probably didn’t know (or care) that Kasich was a defendant in the case that made marriage equality possible. Under Kasich’s orders, the state refused to recognize Jim Obergefell on his husband’s death certificate. That’s the case that led to the Supreme Court ruling in June. It’s a testament to the state of the Republican party that the man who denied a dying man’s wish can say in a presidential debate that “we need to…treat everybody with respect” and actually be lauded for his compassion.
Of course, not that it much matters for Kasich, who is at one percent in GOP polls and zero percent with the rest of the world. He has a better chance of winning the Kentucky Derby than the GOP presidential nomination.
But the real value of the debates is in determining the tenor of the Republican presidential campaign, no matter who the nominee is. And the debate made it perfectly clear that gay and transgender issues are going to be front and center throughout the campaign. It’s not just because Fox anchors tossed a few questions out at a debate. It’s because the candidates themselves see this is an opportunity to get votes.
The debates showed that what matters most to the candidates (and the base) is ideological purity. No position can be too extreme and no rhetoric out of bounds. If it was, Donald Trump wouldn’t be leading in the polls. That also means that attacking LGBT issues is a sure-fire winner, at least in the primaries.
As for the general election, the Republicans seem to be on track of repeating their rousing successes of 2008 and 2012.

Benham Brothers Call Marriage Equality ‘The Worst Thing That Could Have Ever Happened to Our Nation’ – AUDIO
Benham Brothers Call Marriage Equality ‘The Worst Thing That Could Have Ever Happened to Our Nation’ – AUDIO
Would-be reality tv stars Jason and David Benham joined former Alaska GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller on his radio program Saturday to publicize their new book, “Whatever the Cost” and lay this doozy of a crazy egg:
“The Supreme Court’s decision on marriage – it was the worst thing that could have happened to our nation but it was the best thing that could have ever happened to the Church. Because now we get a chance to experience real persecution and when persecution comes that’s God’s prescription to purify us. And we now as a Church are going to be able experience that purification and it will separate the weak from the chaste.”
That’s right – slavery, the subjugation of women, colonialism, the systematic oppression of people of color, war, famine, hurricanes and every other awful thing in our nation’s history pales in comparison to the horror of two men or two women being able to tie the knot.
Unbelievable.
The Benham brothers also warned that the gay “bully agenda” is really just about taking away peoples’ religious liberties and that conservative outlets like Miller’s radio program may soon be shut down.

'Stonewall' Director Addresses Controversy Surrounding Movie's Trailer
'Stonewall' Director Addresses Controversy Surrounding Movie's Trailer
The director of an upcoming film that depicts the 1969 Stonewall Riots addressed the controversy surrounding the film’s trailer — released this week — through a post on his Facebook.
Roland Emmerich, who directed “Stonewall,” which hits theaters on September 25, defended his film against an intense backlash based on its recently released trailer, which some queer and trans activists claim misrepresents who was actually at Stonewall on the night of the famous riots.
Stonewall, often cited as the beginning of the mainstream gay rights movements, took place on June 28, 1969 when police raided the now iconic New York City gay bar, prompting its patrons to fight back against policing and violence aimed at the queer community. Some activists, after viewing the trailer, have claimed that the film “whitewashes” the narrative and erases the drag queens, transgender patrons and queer people of color present during the night of the rebellion.
Emmerich responded on Facebook yesterday:
When I first learned about the Stonewall Riots through my work with the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, I was struck…
Posted by Roland Emmerich on Thursday, August 6, 2015
In the post, Emmerich emphasizes that the movie is a “fictionalized drama” of the events at Stonewall. He also addressed concerns that “Stonewall” overlooks important historical figures, writing that following the film’s release “audiences will see that it deeply honors the real-life activists who were there — including Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Ray Castro — and all the brave people who sparked the civil rights movement which continues to this day.”
The outrage surrounding the trailer for “Stonewall” has culminated in a proposed boycott of the film. A petition making it’s rounds on the Web calls on queer people to not pay to see the film and to “use social media to recall what you know to be true of Stonewall.”
What do you think about Emmerich’s response? Will you still see the “Stonewall”? Let us know in the comments below.
