Trans woman shot dead in Guyana

Trans woman shot dead in Guyana

A transgender woman was gunned down last week in Guyana.

Nephi Luthers was shot in the chest at around 2.35am on Wednesday (22 July) morning in the capital Georgetown.

According to the Guyana Chronicle, Luthers was a sex worker and had refused to give a refund to an unsatisfied client earlier that night.

He later returned with another man and a heated row erupted, during which one of them shot Luthers before they sped away in an SUV.

Other sex workers rushed to Luthers to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said they were reviewing video footage and pursuing the two suspects, although no arrests have yet been made.

The Guyana Trans United group said it was saddened and in shock to hear ‘another member has been gunned down.’

Two nights before the shooting, the group held a candlelight vigil in remembrance of two other transgender sex workers who were murdered on 20 July 2014.

Bobbi Kristina Brown Has Died At Age 22

Bobbi Kristina Brown Has Died At Age 22

Whitney-Houston-and-Bobbi-Kristina-BrownSix months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub in her Atlanta home, Bobbi Kristina Brown has died at age 22. The death of the only daughter that came from the union of R&B singer Bobby Brown and late pop superstar Whitney Houston, after weeks in hospice care, feels like the end of an era in which Houston dazzled a generation with her perfect vibrato and peerless range as a vocalist.

The Houston family released a statement Sunday, saying, “Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away Sunday, July 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”

Despite the death of her relative, singer Dionne Warwick, Houston’s cousin, followed through with a planned appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. Host Andy Cohen asked what she wanted the world to know about the 22-year-old. “Oh my, do we have enough time? She was a sweetheart and she will be missed that’s for sure,” Warwick shared. “And she was a good girl… She was a good little girl, she really was.”

For the many millions of fans of Whitney Houston, one of the most beloved and talented singers in pop music history, Brown’s passing is an unbearably sad reminder of Houston’s similar death in 2012.

Read a few tweets from friends and fans of the family.

What if there was a heterosexual pride march but nobody showed up?

What if there was a heterosexual pride march but nobody showed up?

No one turned up for a planned heterosexual pride march that was supposed to take place yesterday in Seattle, Washington yesterday – leaving its organizer to march alone.

167 people had registered their intention to take part of the event online but when ‘proud heterosexual’ and Heterosexual Parade organizer Anthony Rebello turned up to march through Seattle’s Capitol Hill district with a ‘straight pride’ sign and bunch of black and white balloons he found he was the only one there.

Reacting to the lack of a turn out online, Rebello blamed negative attention from the LGBTI community towards the event, writing, ‘This is a positive event that the LGBT community tried to turn into something negative – not everything has to do with gay people.’

‘A lot of heterosexuals don’t want their pictures taken because they are scared of the LGBT community.’

Rebello has claimed that he had no anti-gay agenda in creating the event, writing, ‘We mean no harm by celebrating. This is a positive event for heterosexuals.’

‘We are not discriminating, simply celebrating our right to be heterosexual.’

However in a blog post written in June, Rebello said he saw same-sex marriage as ‘a trend’ and ‘a cry for attention’ by gay people.

‘Maybe animals should be allowed to get married? Would they govern and tax them too? While they’re at it, how about equal rights for insects?’

‘In my opinion, there is a difference between a man and a woman. If you can’t appreciate those differences, you can’t enjoy those differences. I don’t agree with boys turning into girls, and I don’t agree with girls turning into boys.’

Rebello wrote that he had organized the event to reclaim the word ‘pride’ from the LGBTI community.

‘The word/meaning of “Pride” doesn’t belong to the gay/LGBT community, it belongs to everyone,’ Rebello wrote on his Smile Me A River blog, ‘That includes us good old fashioned straight people.’

‘The way I see it, in my opinion, some boys never turn into men, and some girls never turn into women. What a shitshow. “Welcome to the other side of the rainbow” Really? No thanks.’

Bobbi Kristina Brown: 1993-2015

Bobbi Kristina Brown: 1993-2015

Bobbi Kristina Brown died today (26 July). The only child from the marriage of musical icon Whitney Houston and R&B performer Bobby Brown was 22.

According to The Root, she was a patient at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia. This past January, Brown was discovered in her Atlanta area home submerged in a bathtub. Since then she has been in hospital, and was recently transferred to hospice care.

‘Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family,’ Kristen Foster, a representative for the Houston family said, according to the Associated Press. ‘She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.’

How Brown ended in tub has been speculated on for months. According to The Root, Nick Gordon, who Brown called her husband, is facing a lawsuit that claims he struck her and withdrew cash out of her account after she was found. A police report describes the incident as a drowning.

In 2012 February, her legendary mother was found unconscious in a Beverly Hills Hilton bathtub.

Twitter exploded with condolences. Below are some examples.
