Governor Scott Walker does not know if being gay is a choice

Governor Scott Walker does not know if being gay is a choice

When it comes to gay sexuality, Governor Scott Walker is confused by it all.

The 2016 Republican presidential candidate appeared on CNN this weekend. Reporter Dana Bash asked Wisconsin’s chief executive if he thought being gay was a choice.

‘I don’t have an opinion on every single issue out there. To me, that’s, I don’t know,’ Walker replied. ‘I don’t know the answer to that question.’

He added, however, that this would not prevent him from being a president for the entire country, even those who don’t agree with him.

‘The bottom line is I’m going to stand up and work hard for every American, without regard of who they are, no matter where they come from, no matter what their background, I’m going to fight for people, whether they vote for me or not,’ said Walker.

The Republican offered clarification on the Boy Scouts ban on LGBTI adult leaders. He supports it, but thinks the organization should decide if it stays or not.

‘I thought the policy was just fine. I’m saying when I was in Scouts, it was fine. You’re asking what should the policy be going forward. It should be left up to the leaders of the Scouts,’ said Walker.

This past week, the former Eagle Scout tripped over multiple comments about the Scouts. First he argued prohibiting gay leaders ‘protected’ children. After the backlash, he insisted he meant the ban shielded the group from ‘the political and media discussion about it, instead of just focusing on what Scouts is about…’

In 2013, BSA ended its exclusion on out Scouts. However, gay Scouts, once they reached the age of 18, out adult leaders, and employees of the organization remained banned.

The BSA’s executive committee’s unanimous vote to change the rule must be ratified by the organization’s governing body.

Below is a clip of the CNN interview. His comments on gay Scouts start at approximately the 1:47 minute mark.

Donald Trump Defiant in Wake of John McCain War Hero Controversy, Says He Won’t Pull Out of 2016 Race: VIDEO

Donald Trump

Donald Trump isn’t backing down in the slightest following his latest headline making controversy. Asked by Martha Raddatz on This Week earlier about his widely condemned comments questioning Sen. John McCain’s status as a war hero, Trump remained defiant and refused to apologize.

The 2016 candidate also brushed off the criticism he’s received from fellow GOP contenders (minus pal Ted Cruz), saying they’re all just upset because he’s leading in certain polls – a reality that may not be in place for long. Some have already said Trump’s latest grab for attention is a “turning point” for his campaign and its coverage.

The NYT’s Nate Cohn writes:

His support will erode as the tone of coverage shifts from publicizing his anti-establishment and anti-immigration views, which have some resonance in the party, to reflecting the chorus of Republican criticism of his most outrageous comments and the more liberal elements of his record. […]

After today, Republican commentators and campaigns will have far fewer reservations about attacking Mr. Trump. They will be dismissive of his candidacy, and they will probably diversify their attacks, expanding the onslaught to include his record of donating to Democrats and his continuing support for universal health care. Nearly all of the campaigns have incentives to pile on, and Mr. Trump — without a deep base of support and with few party allies — will struggle to hold on.

Scott Walker: 'I Don't Know' If People Are Born Gay Or If It's A Choice

Scott Walker: 'I Don't Know' If People Are Born Gay Or If It's A Choice

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker told CNN’s “State of the Union” that he “doesn’t know” whether being gay is a choice or if people are born gay.

Walker, the front-runner in polls of the Iowa caucus, made this declaration amid questions from CNN’s Dana Bash about his prior statement on the Boy Scouts’ ban on gay leaders.

On Tuesday, Walker was reported to have said that the ban “protected children and advanced Scout values.” He tried to clarify those remarks on Wednesday by stating that he thought the policy protected children from engaging in the political debate over gay rights.

He reiterated his clarification on Sunday, but then dodged a question about whether he had an opinion of the ban, which led to Bash asking him whether he thought being gay was a choice.

Walker fist rambled about the question not being “an issue for me to be involved in,” before stating that he did not “have an opinion on every single issue out there.” He then stated that he did not know.

Bash: Do you think that being gay is a choice?

Walker: Oh, I mean I think — that’s not even an issue for me to be involved in. The bottom line is, I’m going to stand up and work hard for every American regardless of who they are, no matter where they come from, no matter what their background. I’m going to fight for people whether they vote for me or not.

Bash: On behalf of people to do that properly you have to understand or at least have an opinion on who they are and where they’re coming from.

Walker: But again, I think — no, I don’t have an opinion on every single issue out there. I mean to me that’s — I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that question. So, I’m saying I don’t know what the answer to that is. And I’m going to spend my time focused on things that I do know and I can work on.

Gay couple who fought for marriage equality in Alabama win their adoption rights

Gay couple who fought for marriage equality in Alabama win their adoption rights

Cari Saercy and Kim McKean finally won the parenting rights they’ve been seeking since their son was born in 2005.

‘I think it’s just going to be an overwhelmingly happy experience for us all,’ Searcy, who is right now not the legal parent to son Khaya, said. ‘It’s a day that we’ve been waiting for a long time.’

Since the SCOTUS result which overturned the ban on gay marriage across the country came into affect the couple will legally be able to adopt their son and be recognised as a family.

The state of Alabama where they live initially blocked the adoption while marriage was defined as between a man and a woman – the couple had already married in California in 2008.

They unwittingly became the face of the marriage equality movement in Alabama when they filed a lawsuit to overturn the ban on gay marriage in the state.

Despite its success, they were still not allowed to have Saercy adopt Khaya as her legal son due to the marriage laws.

Now the law has changed, the couple looks forward to the adoption going through. Saercy announced on Facebook that July 24th will be the adoption day.

Saercy said: ‘I look forward to when this is all over and it’s no longer gay marriage or same-sex marriage, just marriage and our family is no longer considered a gay family or a same-sex family. We’re just considered a family.’

Check out some of the hottest bears in Provincetown

Like your men big and beefy? One of the most famed gatherings of bears, cubs and all manner of other cuddly gay men is the annual Provincetown Bear Week, which draws to a close today in the Cape Cod coastal town.

Kiehl's

Kiehl’s posts about Bear Week on its social media

This year’s event was the 15th annual gathering – during which time its popularity has consistently grown. The festival now features a variety of cabaret, pool parties, beach outings, art exhibitions, tea dances, cruise parties and off-the-wall events.

BearWeek 2015 included yoga, trans-inclusive ‘spirit and healing’ sessions (‘Loving our bear bodies’), gay-friendly church services, historical walks, bike rides and whale watching.

Even men’s grooming specialists Kiehl’s commemorated the event at its P’Town store – no doubt selling plenty of beard oil alongside a limited-edition Bear Week T-shirt (snugly modeled here by Kiehl’s president, Chris Salgardo)

It’s an extended program that has proved popular with those attending.

‘Provincetown Bear Week is proof that the community has come of age’, says Mike Wyeld, who is part of the Loved art collective (showing at the Masonic Place Gallery).

‘In its 15th year, like a teenager learning to drive, it is reaching out and finding diversity with the inclusion of artists, musicians and theatre shows. It has found its maturity.’

‘It has a very friendly atmosphere, with a true bear neighborhood feel,’ added fellow Loved co-founder Charlie Hunter.

‘It was it was like a school reunion where you actually wanted to see all your old classmates again.’

Bear Week hot spots include the Boat Slip, Crown & Anchor and Provincetown Inn, while celebrity appearances this past week included Lea DeLaria and Lesley Jordan.

Guest clubs included London’s Horse Meat Disco and Brut, and New York’s Furball.

‘I’m drawn back every year safe in the knowledge that I will make new friends and visit with people we’ve met before,’ says Johnny Malanga, who was visiting with husband Tom from their home in Long Island.

‘The crowds are friendly.’ Indeed, besides the increasingly diverse nature of the events; the biggest attraction of Bears Week remains the opportunity to mingle and party with some of the cutest, hirsute hunks around – many of whom shared highlights via Instagram. Check out highlights below…
