The Antigay Duggars Are Officially 19 Kids And Canceled

The Antigay Duggars Are Officially 19 Kids And Canceled

Screen shot 2015-07-16 at 1.00.09 PMThe antigay Duggars are probably freaking out right now. TLC just canceled their show 19 Kids and Counting… and they’ve got 19 f-ing kids to feed!

The cancelation comes after it was revealed that the Duggars eldest song, Josh, has a history of molesting little girls, including two of his own sisters. The 27-year-old former executive director of the antigay Family Research Council Action admitted to forcibly fondling his sisters 12 years ago in a statement released back in May.

“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting,” the network said in a statement released earlier today. “The show will no longer appear on the air.”

TLC also announced that it’s partnering  with the child-protection organizations Darkness to Light and RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) in a new campaign designed to raise awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse.

“TLC will work closely with both groups and with the Duggar family on a one-hour documentary that will include Jill and Jessa and other survivors and families that have been affected by abuse,” the network said in the statement.

The Duggars have a slightly different spin on things, however.

Just as they like to deny things like evolution or the fact that gay people exist, they also appear unwilling to admit their show has, indeed, been canceled. Instead, they released a statement saying they will simply “not be filming new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting.”

“Over the last several years people have said to us, ‘We love your show!’ We have always responded, ‘It’s not a show, it’s our lives!’” the family said. “Our desire in opening our home to the world is to share Bible principles that are the answers for life’s problems.”

Principals that include crusading against gay rights, calling transgender people freaks and perverts, and covering up acts of child molestation, evidently.

Why Nothing Pisses Me Off More

Why Nothing Pisses Me Off More
Originally published on Unwritten by Krista Jaworski.

Transgenderism pisses me off.

All of it. Everything under that umbrella pisses me off. The sheer concept of someone’s gender expression diverging from their sex is an issue that should be irrelevant. Because there’s nothing wrong with it.

When you’re born, nobody is standing there with a clipboard like, “Yes, this child will grow up to be a lawyer, only a lawyer, and nothing else. They will have no time to figure out for themselves if they like this job or if they feel they are happiest in the field of law. They must only abide by this assignment, and we’ll ostracize them if they want to be an artist instead, even if they want to be both a lawyer and an artist.”

Why can’t people just be humans with complex identities?

That’s ridiculous. You know what else is? That I was born with brown hair, but I decided I liked red better, so I took the liberty of dying it. Nobody gives a sh*t that I wasn’t born with red hair; they just look at me and say, “Cool, she’s got red hair.”

I don’t understand why that’s any different than gender. Someone was born one way, and changed it once they figured out they felt happier another way. It’s their body, mind and soul. So why are you, a separate entity from all of those things, getting so worked up about it?

The part that bothers me the most is that the definition of a gender fluid or transgender human exists at all. The fact that a girl can feel like a “boy” displays how evident gender roles in our society are. Because one female might feel a way that’s been labelled as “male,” (or male as “female”), they’re automatically characterized as “transgender.” Why can’t people just be humans with complex identities?

Growing up sucks in one way or another for everyone.

And PLEASE tell me why it’s such a problem to identify as more than one thing?! I’m happy some days and sad other days. I’m outgoing in some situations and introverted in others. Yes, it’s possible to have two seemingly opposing characteristics, and yes, it’s fine and normal to be both.

And don’t even get me started on androgynous clothing. IT’S FABRIC. Suits and ties are not exclusively “male,” and dresses and heels are not exclusively “female.” You wanna pierce your ears, get a tattoo, wear a skirt, sneakers and a bow tie, then you go for it, homie. And ain’t nobody ought to tell you otherwise.

Now, my issues lie within the labels of transgenderism, but I don’t want to ignore these LGBTQ groups’ communal aspects. There’s nothing better than feeling like you belong. It’s when I view the whole thing objectively, it makes me wonder why this is even a topic of discussion. A discussion that people feel very passionately offensive about.

I’m absolutely heartbroken whenever I hear about a kid who feels lost and confused about their sexuality or gender identity and is labeled “wrong” for that. Growing up sucks in one way or another for everyone. You’re trying to figure out who you are and what you want to do with your life. That statement encompasses all parts of yourself including your unique, complex, beautiful gender identity.

I wanna throw a big “hell yeah” to those openly defending their transgender or gender-fluid identities, increasing the activity in this discussion. Although it should never feel taboo to be different than the “norm” (I’m using that term ironically, let me be clear), I’m glad there are some kick-ass role models to guide the way to create a new norm; a norm that lets everyone be whatever the hell they want.

Live and let live, man. Kiss who you wanna kiss, and be who you wanna be. It’s really that simple.

Emmy nominations include nods for Transparent, OITNB, Modern Family, Lily Tomlin and Jane Lynch

Emmy nominations include nods for Transparent, OITNB, Modern Family, Lily Tomlin and Jane Lynch

Four-time winner Jim Parsons was snubbed as were Modern Family’s Cam and Mitch.

But there is still plenty of LGBTI representation in this year’s Emmy Award nominations which were announced Thursday.

The series Transparent, about a father of three adult children transitioning to female at the age of 70, was nominated for outstanding comedy series and star Jeffrey Tambor was nominated for lead actor.

It is Tambor’s seventh Emmy nomination overall – the others were for Arrested Development and The Larry Sanders Show – and he has yet to win.

Orange Is The New Black, the Netflix series about life in a women’s prison, was nominated for outstanding drama series after competing as a comedy last year.

OITNB’s Uzo Aduba was nominated for outstanding supporting actress for her performance as lesbian inmate Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren. Aduba won last year in the guest actress in a comedy series category.

Two-time Emmy winner Andre Braugher earned his ninth nomination overall with a nod in the Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series category for his performance as gay cop Captain Ray Holt in Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The HBO film Bessie, about bisexual singer Bessie Smith, was nominated for outstanding television movie and star Queen Latifah earned a nod in the lead actress in a limited series or a movie category.

Out actress Lily Tomlin, a six-time Emmy winner, was nominated in the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her role opposite Jane Fonda in the Netflix show Grace & Frankie. She and Fonda play women who must lean on each other after their husbands fall in love and leave them.

Other out stars nominated: Sarah Paulson for American Horror Story: Freak Show (Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie); Denis O’Hare for American Horror Story: Freak Show (Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Series Or A Movie); Alan Cumming for The Good Wife (Supporting Actor In A Drama Series); and Kate McKinnon for Saturday Night Live (Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series).

The Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition category includes last year’s winner Jane Lynch for Hollywood Game Night and Tim Gunn for Project Runway.

Parsons won his fourth Emmy just last year for The Big Bang Theory but was not nominated this year. The CBS comedy was also snubbed in the comedy series category.

The ABC comedy Modern Family, however, was nominated and has the opportunity to win for a record sixth consecutive year. But Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who play gay couple Cam and Mitch on the show, were both passed over this year.

Stonestreet has been nominated three times and won twice while Ferguson had been nominated five consecutive years but never won.

Drag

In celebration of International Drag Day today film director Ben Churchill released his short documentary Drag King this week, documenting the oftentimes overshadowed art of drag kings.

The film follows drag king artist Mady G. and explores her motivations for her performance art along with an examination of her techniques, including an interesting segment regarding “packing,” on how she transitions into her masculine persona.
